I remember when Eternal Bond was first being introduced to the game, and the devs initially announced that it would not allow characters of the same sex to get married. Some players posted threads requesting to allow gay marriage, and those threads were immediately hammered by hostile comments insulting them, accusing them of bringing "real life politics into my fantasy game," calling them whiny and entitled, acting shocked and offended that opposing gay marriage was seen as "homophobic," saying the game shouldn't cater to the demands of a toxic minority, "I don't have any problem with LGBT folks, I just don't want their agenda shoved down my throat," etc. The rampant, raging homophobia was just as obvious and transparent as the transphobia in this thread is.
None of you had to get "gay married." None of you have to call yourself they/them or any other pronouns you don't want to be referred to as. You don't have to become friends with gay players, or trans players, if you don't want to. You don't even have to talk to them. The feature OP was asking for, if implemented, would affect none of you whatsoever. It was just about how NPCs would refer to the player, in their own MSQ and personal dialogues. You probably wouldn't even notice it was an option, unless somebody told you about it.
Why are you people all so offended at being called "transphobic?" Do you truly think you're not? Do you even think being transphobic is bad?
You don't want trans people to be called the pronouns they identify with. You don't want the game to allow player characters to be trans. You don't want to see any trans characters running around Eorzea. You don't even want players to be able to privately choose their own pronouns for the purposes of NPC dialogue you would never bear witness to. You basically insist that FFXIV officially be a completely trans-free experience, from what I can tell. If that's not transphobic, somebody please tell me what is. Do you have to be literally in the process of murdering a trans person?
For what it's worth, I agree that adding non-binary or other pronouns to the existing script of the game would be a monumental task and probably an unrealistic goal for FFXIV at this point. Letting players choose between he/him or she/her might be possible, perhaps even as simple as flipping a variable to one thing or the other thing. After all, those pronouns are already fully supported in the game. Depends how it's all programmed, I guess. But we have PLENTY of threads on the forums asking for HUGE features that would take even more work than this, and they don't get even 1% of the hate and rage as LGBTQ subjects do. Do you think the "Stop feeding the troll" and "Can't believe this crap thread is still up" guy puts this much effort into every thread he doesn't like? He does it a bit, sure, but there is a vastly disproportionate amount of effort here, more than anywhere else. Don't tell me these forums don't have homophobes or transphobes. I'm not blind.
