Myths of the Realm is the ultimate proof CBU3 doesn't do jack to archive and share past lore and plotlines proper to the new writers.
Granted Endwalker already showed signs of that in 6.0, but MotR was very blatant about it.

So if future expansions have connections to anything presented so far, expect inconsistencies and contradictions to only get worse.

And I'll say more. Ever since 6.1 it became very clear that as bad as 1.0 was as a video game, the only reason FFXIV had a good setting in its first 8 years was because it was built on the foundations and ruins of this game's lore that was never CBU3's to begin with. The moment they had to create their own stories from scratch (or almost from scratch in case of this void mini saga) they show pure bog-standard shounen anime mediocrity coated in lazy fanservice.


Look, I'm not saying they couldn't come up with a good self contained story if they tried. But that's the problem. They really want to commit to doing multi-expansion 'sagas' but they really shouldn't be doing that with that "lol you guys really care about the story huh???" attitude they have. Best thing for them would be to keep stories self contained from here on. Sure the stories would probably be bland, void of grey area or characters suffering actual lasting consequences, but at least it wouldn't be a whole snowball.

Honest to god this thought crossed my mind when I got caught up on the patches back when Blue Mage came out. The thought came back to me here. I hope we're wrong because I generally really like FFXIV for the story and its setting (though I wish it had more of other things that really made me hyped) but now im kinda worried about DawnTrail, and I FEEEEEEEEL like the whole "this is just supposed to be like a vacation" thing is gonna come back up if people aren't happy with its story. Like it was a planted excuse that people could potentially latch on to.

I hope im completely wrong on this btw, im just saying I could see it.
