Wasn't as bad as Nier, wasn't as good as any of the other stuff.

Enjoyed it.
Meh. I think SE went a little too far in tying everything about Eorzea back to the Ancients. Couldn't there have been some mysteries in the world independent of them?
I disagree with this. They never felt like a huge point to me. Some would get mentioned in passing as patron deity of this or that city state or guild but little more. Halone was the one exception as patron of Ishgard and important to Ishgard's church.
Picking a patron deity for our characters made it seem like they might be more important but that ended up a letdown. I'm guessing they had a lot more significance in 1.0 than they did in 2.0 and onward.

Uh, no. in 1.0 a god gave some bonus point of a specific elemental resistance.
No need to think too hard, in final fantasy deities are not transcendent and they refer to the Shinto idea of "kami" .
I have 10,000 needles,
I'm not a weaver,
and I'm not scared to use them.

Like idk what to tell you, go back and watch 1.0 content. We literally were fighting on Ralgar's hands and got back story on him in Stormblood. Shadowbringers we didn't get much but like thats because we were on the first. And you can't say Endwalker didn't have them included either because that's what this conversation is all about.Meh. I don't know, I'd say they're a pretty fundamental part of Eorzea itself, which is more or less the cornerstone of the game. They may not have been front and centre most of the time, but they are/ were Eorzea's principal form of religion and over the years we were constantly hearing references to them in way or another. It's one of those things you don't think about so much because it's such an entrenched part of the lore you sort of take it for granted that it's there, but in spite of that I think a lot of people have been quietly intrigued by them, especially given what went on during the Calamity and what we saw from the Flames of Truth cinematic. They were a little enigmatic, and there was always something of a question mark hanging over them as to what exactly their deal was. Even if it wasn't a hot topic of debate, I'd say the level of disappointment is a testament to how much it did actually matter to some people.
I've had sub-zero expectations for this ever since they decided to not even bother showing a fragment of the Zodiark/ Hydaelyn fight or any of what came before it. They really don't care that much to put that level of detail in, and it's been clear for a while now.

I was actually so annoyed I wrote an entire post on it LOL. If you're interested, check it out! I didn't mean to make mult threads, but I really needed to get my thoughts out in hopes the feedback will be heard by the devs.

If XIV is one big fan service nostalgia game, I hope they move on from I-VI. The most we got from VII is the Weapon series albeit redesigned a lot compared to the source material. Meanwhile IV nostalgia is spread over the entire Endwalker expansion and it brought along several tracks of its OST straight up unchanged, probably because Soken was busy on XVI.
They must be running out of good characters to reuse from I-VI at this point. World of Final Fantasy would have been a suitable alternative title for FF XIV if it's going to be a nostalgia ride of the entire series. But it certainly wasn't planned to be anything like that when Tanaka started it. The original game without all the cameos was going to be a really solid original FF world in its own right.
It's boring.
It was a complete waste of time. The alliances were visually gorgeous, right? Mechanics, welllll...not the best. The outfits? Started out GREAT! Then started to all blur into each other. THE STORY. Ok..hmm. Started off a bit boring. Then started to pick up! It suddenly made stuff like your chosen deity matter, now that you could actually see these God characters in game. They felt a bit cooler now! And artists were out drawing all these ideas based on what little lore outside of the story that we knew and it felt like this would be at least an interesting thing to have in mind. These Gods were real, and maybe they'd become important and something really cool would happen later on.
Complete opposite happened, total disaster.
So, we finally see them, but not TOO much is revealed about them, other than they all have something really preachy to say and into getting beat up by you. Ok. Well, we hadnt seen all of them yet, so that was fine, there was still clearly more to come. and come it did! FINALLY we got to see the FINAL of the twelve!-for .0002 seconds, because literally directly after we very first visually see them, they all unanimously decided to go commit die. That was it for them, it was over. and then they half-heartedly try to make up for it at the end with the little conversation about who they used to be...listen. They didnt even bother to animate any flashbacks. Its bad enough the whole thing was no actual voice lines. Like did any of you even TRY??? We just got a, "uhh welll so theyre all dead now but like one used to really like starbucks, the other was pretty good at rolling dices, and-" like COMEEE ONN.
All that, for nothing. They might as well have never existed then. Yoshida needs to stop talking to Tetsuya Nomura, because that was some Kingdom Heartsy "-but actually, nothing that happened here mattered because the character wont remember any of it, thank you for playing!" type stuff. Big disappointment. Bummer right after the summer, because how are you going to give me little descriptions of them and then just show me nothing!!! Paid me dust!!! Like, you're not even gonna put up any little concept art or anything?!? No images, just clickable gossip from the plan abandoner over here?? Because he should have dutifully walked off into that stream too!! Go on, get!! Like if you're not going to give us a full interesting story about something then leave me alone!! Lmao
