What was your opinion on the Myths of the Realm story?

Now hear me out, this may be a hot take and up until now I haven't really had barley any real problems with FFXIV's story, but I felt like they kinda forgot all about the twelve and it was the last thing left to knock out from 1.0 so they just shoehorned a VERY small story into a raid series. I really felt like it was a bummer considering the Twelve have been a huge point since the beginning.

At the very least I would have liked better dialog if we weren't getting VA and more CS budgets. Things that were pretty important like the whole Bahamut Calamity situation were literally written off with the Deryk saying "we were busy with our duties" but we know that's not true because the scions were literally praying to the twelve for power so Louisoix could make like a spirit bomb cage to reseal bahamut.

And what were their opinions on the Ascians!? What was their relationship like? Did they even ever cross paths before? Why didn't they try to stop them themselves?

What about the battle over silvertear falls? I could be remembering this wrong but wasn't it said that Hydaelyn's heart was in silvertear? Were they referencing the twelve? And if so what did they feel about that?

They could have told us and elaborated on so much more but man this felt like a really rushed conclusion to a plot point that has been building up for damn near 13 years.

It's a story. That exists.

I honestly felt it was second only to the Nier raids in terms of how utterly indifferent I felt about its conclusion. There was no sort of conflict or threat to be addressed and the actual import of the revelations to be had felt minimal unless this "blessing" the Twelve have given to the star actually amounts to something later.

It actively detracts from the world-building to have the Eorzean pantheon just be yet another work of Hydaelyn who now don't even exist in any capacity.

Yeah I pretty much agree. The writing was incredibly thin, and the little there was was... not the best, either.

the story was definitely just there to write off the 12 in future conflict/ideas but I didn't mind
it, the ending was pretty nice and funny they tied in the ancients to the 12

its definitely the middle of the bunch in terms of AR stories
not as good as Ivalice or Void ark but better than CT and Nier.

I didn't care at all for the previous two raids but I enjoyed the story this time around. Surprisingly I found myself getting a little choked up during that cutscene after the final boss. Considering the entire story from start to finish as a whole though it wasn't that strong of a narrative. I think it took too long to get to the point so for the first two raids you're just fighting gods because it looks cool which isn't very compelling.

Another casualty of the devs' current obsession with obliterating any and all lingering threads from 2.0 - 6.0, and dealt with in the most slapdash and unsatisfying way possible. Even their designs felt cheap for the most part.

God, this. Why they couldn't just leave something to the imagination and let an air of mystery surround the true nature of the Twelve and religion in Hydaelyn rather than haphazardly stripping away the last of the intrigue left to the world, I don't know.

Was it actually bad? No. Was inconsistent with the Ancient's story? No.

Was it as thin as hell and a wasted opportunity? Yes, as was the whole 13th story which wasn't bad but could have been amazing.

They should have left it until 7.X or 8.X and given it more time, same with the 13th storyline. I'm not gonna /wrists over it though, I'll judge their writing on 7.0 onwards. I do agree the devs seem a bit too keen on fresh-slating the game at the expense of established world-building but we'll see.

After the cat was out of the bag and they were ancients. I think this is the best way they could've done it. I really don't enjoy mysticism revealed either, we didn't need to touch them, but I don't think their godly virtue got hampered in any way. They still did their duty for 12k years was it? And still continue to guide mankind and their prayers for the betterment of the star directly from the lifestream.
My main fear was that they were going to destroy the whole religious system in Eorzea and they didn't.

I agree with some people in this thread, that it's just a sign of them wanting to write everything from ARR off for a new storyline to begin. EW basically felt like two expansions packed together cause "We need to wrap this thing up". I HOPE the rushing will be worth it in 7.0 I really do and it wasn't just to get FFXVI out to the markets.

I think I misspoke in this since I kinda emotionally wrote it late last night after I finished, because I remember the whole thing with Papalymo, but what Deryk said literally insinuates that they could have done something.......but they were busy.........
