Female Hrothgar as a playable race. Show your support!

If I was in charge of doing it, I'd be 50/50 on removing the upper part of the model entirely and leaving it blank, or replacing it with something really ridiculous and fake.

(It's not a Hrothgar, it's three moogles in a trenchcoat!)

But the idea of someone being real cute and datamining the model to see who/what is standing there and it just being a pair of legs is honestly pretty funny already.

It is a little strange though, they went through the relative effort of "closing up" the leg model at the waist rather than leaving it hollow because you're not supposed to see it from that angle anyway. The implication is obviously that it's a female Hrothgar but it makes me wonder if it's not also a Yugiri-before-unmasking situation and they don't want to show anything of the final model yet so they took some poor Highlanders legs and wrapped a fur texture on it for now.

Quite possible if they were going to get a fully unique model, although since it's fairly predictable that they'll be based on one existing model or another, it seems more likely that they would just use that model without any of the new-race-specific adjustments to it yet.

Unless they want to go super obfuscating and stick it on a Highlander when they're planning to use a Roegadyn, or something like that.

Oh yeah there's no doubt they're going to have the same base body but resized and re-textured like everyone else, I was just thinking that Au Ra don't have a fully unique model either and it just wasn't finished at the time Yugiri was supposed to show up in the story so she got to be a masked Miqo for a while. We don't know how long ago they finished this scene so it could have been quite early on and this is what they had to work with.

But you're right it could pretty much go either way.

So it looks like I was exactly right. It wasn't the full model at all, and it looks plenty "thicc." It actually seems pretty similar to the Maho art we've all been gushing about for years, so perhaps they've been reading this thread after all?

Of course the most important part is how the head and face turn out but I'm feeling pretty good about what we're seeing so far.

In terms of all female characters ultimately being tweaked Midlanders, maybe, but Au Ra are as unique as any of the ARR races in a way that the later races are not. They have their own hempen gear design and unique versions of certain race-specific emotes, whereas - for example - female Viera has a direct copy of the female Midlander hempen gear and also shares the female Midlander version of those generally race-specific emotes.

(The one I particularly have in mind is a "lecturing" sort of emote, I think it may be /elucidate but that's too expensive for a PVP-allergic player like me to go spending precious wolf marks on when I need those for glamour.)

Thank you so much for this! From what I can see the fur is absolutley visible, she seems to be fairly tall AND have a tail, which is a guarantee for me to change! Now I hope the faces are also good, praying for at least 1 option to be really good!
It does give me more of Maho's RDM and RPR vibes than the SCH or the DRK. And nowhere close to their MNK.

It also remings me of the picture I have been praying that will elude at the final design. The one made by the FFXIV artist. She looked pretty "thicc" and quite imposing in that drawing (amazing work by the artist). I hope they will also have faces similar to that drawing.

One thing that I wanted to add. I don't think the outfit of the model is the racial outfit for female Hrothgar, more of a unique outfit for the NPC herself.

Absolutely, but I was strictly referring to the actual model. Having unique hempen gear and emotes wouldn't have mattered at all at that point since she was covered head to toe anyway.
