agreed, it is a horrible "fix".
Basically , now you will have even less people in roulettes because they can`t use jobs that are overleveled in relation to expansion you are on .
(which could easily be EVERY job you have if you played with new world buff, since that buff gonna make 100% sure that you are overleveled ) .
Cutting off portion of players, making queues longer to "fix" what arguably was a minor problem - is a super lame approach...
Also if they really wanted to go this way, it was obvious, that ilvl should be tied to MSQ\expansion and your highest allowed raids atm, not to a freaking level of the job!
I am also annoyed with this change, I was optimistic before the patch thinking it would be tied to story or which raids you have unlocked. I realise that I play the game in a way that most people wouldn't, I have several alts and like to progress through the content patch by patch before moving on. On one of my characters the lowest level job I have left is 80, so I cannot even switch to a different job to do the roulette instead.
To all of the people asking why some of us would want to keep doing roulettes even when we don't need the experience, the answer is because we enjoy doing so. We should be able to play the game how we like to, even if some people do not understand why. I like doing the same content and I like to be able to do things a certain way.
I loosely kept track of my araid spread through roulette before the patch (during moogle tomes) and I got euphrosyne 4 times. Behind that were syrcus, lota, aglaia, orbonne, paradigm and void ark all with 2 times each. Then I think rabanastre, ridorana, bunker and WoD once each.
this feels like a sticking plaster solution before they figure out something else.
It's a necessary evil. People were using an exploit by queueing with low level gear and then changing to high level once inside, which caused the CT raids to be selected most of the time. It's been a long running complain.
Still, roulettes are best used in characters below 90, so, time to start leveling alts. If you wanna farm Alliance Raids for whatever reason, be it Glamour, enjoyment or anything else, just queue for the desired Raid. I know queues are ungodly oft you play DPS/Tank for that content, but that's another issue for SE to solve, getting people to actually unlock and do content again.
I made an alt character to relax with RL friends 1-2 times per week . To allow me to quickly join them in some activities, I bought a lvl 80 boost a few months ago on a warrior + a story skip to EW (so iLvl 530 gear) as I didn’t have the patience to replay through the MSQ.
That char has now reached lvl 90 but it’s just an alt made for a specific purpose. I don’t intend to play through the EW story for a 4th time so the tome gear is locked behind MSQ and I don’t want to level other jobs save for Blue (already done that on other characters). I mostly PVP and farm PotD/ HoH on that character and run stuff with the fc just for fun and helping new ppl who join. I have all the raids except Nier 3 unlocked (Nier 3 is too white and gives me a headache).
Yesterday they wanted to run an AR. Tank was the role in need but I couldn’t join them because of this stupid decision not to take into account MSQ progress. The highest raid we could have gotten based on group unlocks was Dun Scaith. The group had to wait to fill the tank roles and they ended up getting CT…
Requiring lvl 90 gear when the maximum level of duties I can do is 80 makes no sense. I’ll just skip AR for now.

No, that’s why I made that one. It’s just for fun and being with RL friends. I have my endgame chars in NA and that is a Europe DC.
Plus, in the event I ever decide to do EW, queuing with a lvl 90 character allows one to amass some lvl 90 tomes in view of speeding up gearing as soon as the expansion gear unlocks in MSQ. That’s what I did on a previous character.

Surely they could have implemented it in a way that it would check for the item level of the gear you're currently wearing in comparison to the level of your current job?
The way they implemented it just seems rushed.
