there is no need for exp anyway if your overlvled and you get gear from the msq. is there another reason to do roulette?

I made an alt character to relax with RL friends 1-2 times per week . To allow me to quickly join them in some activities, I bought a lvl 80 boost a few months ago on a warrior + a story skip to EW (so iLvl 530 gear) as I didn’t have the patience to replay through the MSQ.
That char has now reached lvl 90 but it’s just an alt made for a specific purpose. I don’t intend to play through the EW story for a 4th time so the tome gear is locked behind MSQ and I don’t want to level other jobs save for Blue (already done that on other characters). I mostly PVP and farm PotD/ HoH on that character and run stuff with the fc just for fun and helping new ppl who join. I have all the raids except Nier 3 unlocked (Nier 3 is too white and gives me a headache).
Yesterday they wanted to run an AR. Tank was the role in need but I couldn’t join them because of this stupid decision not to take into account MSQ progress. The highest raid we could have gotten based on group unlocks was Dun Scaith. The group had to wait to fill the tank roles and they ended up getting CT…
Requiring lvl 90 gear when the maximum level of duties I can do is 80 makes no sense. I’ll just skip AR for now.

No, that’s why I made that one. It’s just for fun and being with RL friends. I have my endgame chars in NA and that is a Europe DC.
Plus, in the event I ever decide to do EW, queuing with a lvl 90 character allows one to amass some lvl 90 tomes in view of speeding up gearing as soon as the expansion gear unlocks in MSQ. That’s what I did on a previous character.

After reading this thread I can at least understand why the changes were made. However, I as someone who has just finished Stormblood would simply like another easy option to help level my higher classes for the next expansions, and get tome stones to get the newest gear. But my level 80 class is supposed to be geared for content I don't have access to yet, and my 70+ class needs more gear from tome stones that are now harder to get because of these changes.
These inconveniences may be minor, but they still affect players who don't have access to all the content these changes are targeted at. If it could maybe check story progress as well as level that would be appreciated.

your level 70 AF gear will allow entry. People tend to forget that. as for level 80. you get a free set once you complete the role quests since there isn't a job quest that rewards you. After reading this thread I can at least understand why the changes were made. Our FC actually plays together and are of varying levels. We can't do the alliance duty roulette together now. Why?
So annoying. Surely this isn't intended?
Oh, and btw. All my jobs are level 90 and I enjoy ALL the alliance raids. Even CT.
Also, you may want to remove the CT MSQ requirement because I don't think people are going to be able to actually do them anymore.
Can't you make it an opt in or out button.

You got full 90's, make your friends gear. Problem solved. Our FC actually plays together and are of varying levels. We can't do the alliance duty roulette together now. Why?

They have gear appropriate for the expansion that they are in. They are in Stormblood. They should not be required to have ilvl 535 gear just to queue into Stormblood and below alliance raids with friends. You can out level the MSQ stupidly easily. So what we did is just queue directly into the Stormblood alliance raids instead of using duty roulette. My solution will be to no longer run alliance duty roulette as an FC group. Problem solved.
Edit to say: Why can't they just make a separate duty roulette for the CT raids like they have for the MSQ roulette. Make it equivalent to them in experience and currency or less exp and currency, I don't care. After all, they are required for the MSQ and apparently those raids are why they did this. People who want to do them can then do them without impacting the rest of the alliance duty roulette.
This can be justified by the fact that they are required for the MSQ. Therefore, they can be treated differently than the other alliance raids.
