When you spread the net too wide the fish swim right throughWell, that's because they put most of their effort into solo content to chase non-MMO players with things like making sure there are trusts for the entire game, and Island Sanctuary 90% of the playerbase seems to have little to no interest in.
My friend said he wouldn't play FFXIV because he heart there was forced grouping - I told him there wasn't anymore for the story and he still hasn't bothered with the game. He's just playing single player RPGs that are actually better RPGs than FFXIV. Wondering how many people this attracted vs. pushed away with the lack of interesting content for MMO players.
To me it seems like they've literally just been systematically removing anything related to JRPG games from this title and did the same to FF16 as well. If FF14 is still going another 10 years from now in the direction they've been going it will end up being online fantasy sims where you can sometimes go outside your house or town to hit monsters with your weapon...This. For many of us who have lived through all of FFXIV's expansions Endwalker just feels completely unrecognizable. I've never seen content be this dead on arrival nor has every job felt this boring to play. It doesn't feel like there's an mmo here at all. Just an rpg that threw away its story at the last minute and now wants people to tolerate 3 years worth of a beach episode expansion that may or may not go anywhere.
Don't think there's a gaming net in the world too big to catch whales, though. Even when populations drop, the whales keep a game going.
No king lives forever and 10 years is a very long time in gaming terms. How many games were you playing 10 years ago that you're still playing today? To me it seems like they've literally just been systematically removing anything related to JRPG games from this title and did the same to FF16 as well. Whales? Are we predicting the game will go the route of mobile gatcha game?Don't think there's a gaming net in the world too big to catch whales, though. Even when populations drop, the whales keep a game going.

Some food for thought. FFXI is 21 years old and still around, though essentially in "maintenance mode". There are MMORPGs out there still running that were running before it launched.
However the majority of the playerbase Yoshi-P want's to target with this game is not likely to stick around long term. He's essentially been trying to re-tune a genre based around longevity of content to appeal to players that want to 100% the game in 20 hours and get all their trophies/achievements/gamerscore then go hit the next shiny thing that gains popularity.
What's the alternative??? Are there ANY other MMOs in a usable state for the millions of FFXIV players, their friends, and their communities to migrate to? Or do you suggest that they play Fortnite or a single-player game and never talk to people in an online gaming space again? Is that your solution? Just hit the mute switch on everyone?
wait, we have millions of players? Aren't they already left? Quick, bring out the LuckyBancho chartWhat's the alternative??? There are a lot of games that are still around after a couple of decades but players always dismiss them as "dead" because the player base is a tiny fraction of what it had been at one point.Whales? Are we predicting the game will go the route of mobile gatcha game?

That's the same thing people are already doing here, except the game still has a majority of the players it had last year when it hit its peak. They're trying to convince readers that the population will be FFXI size by the end of Dawntrail.
As for how he is retuning the game, doing it to please people who want to 100% a game in 20 hours most definitely is not what he's doing. Just ask all the people who have been complaining about trying to catch big fish over in the DoL subforum and the length of some of the other grinds player bring up in the various other subforums.
Many players already feel like this has gone the mobile game route considering the items being added to the cash shop and that it will only get worse. It's hard for any of us to say one way or another because we don't know how much incoming revenue comes from specific sources and how much goes back into the game from those sources.
Why do you assume that people are only interested in migrating to a MMORPG?What's the alternative??? MMORPGs aren't the only games that can be played with friends and family, or even strangers.
I can remember talking with WoW friends back when I was still playing it about why they chose to play WoW and what they would play if they stopped playing WoW. The most common response was "I don't actually like MMORPGs. I only play WoW because of " [insert choice of "I played Warcraft" or "I like open world PvP" or both".
Frankly, we should kill off every currently operating MMO in existence. The genre is an abject failure and everyone would be better off if they collectively shut down. What's the alternative??? The best hope we have now is for someone to make gameplay as fun as Lost Ark without the p2w, and AoC is definitely not delivering that. I say we shut off the entire genre until someone can deliver.
Honestly I have never said this on this forum and after over 2000 posts I'll say it for the first time.Frankly, we should kill off every currently operating MMO in existence. The genre is an abject failure and everyone would be better off if they collectively shut down.

Maybe you should just quit.
I don't and will never defend this company because they do a LOT wrong, but man when you are this negative it's better to just move on to a different game, for real.
