Not the pursuit of any particular aesthetic itself. The pre-packaged "theming" is what I mean. Applies to any and all styles or aesthetics. I'll be the first to complain about needing more glamour options but a themed outfit is not any less restrictive or samey.

That depends mostly on how the gear pieces are designed. If they were purely designed as a set its bad, but if each piece can be used on its own, there is no issue.
Most event outfits are sadly of the full set kind. But for that its better if the event gives a set, while also introducing some seperate pieces.
Keep in mind people like to glam in theme, so additional pieces are helpful. A spiked bracelet and necklace are generic enough to allow a variety of uses for example. (and this is for example a gear piece slot you rarely see for events).
