FFXIV cash shop in a nutshell

Has anybody or any department at Square Enix come forth and taken responsibility for the cash shop? I haven't heard of anybody doing so. Kind of makes you wonder.

.....why would they?
What would we even get out of knowing? Are we that desperate to have a target to attack?
