Zepla: Endwalker is the Worst FFXIV Expansion I have played

FFXIV content creators have traditionally tended to feel unsafe expressing negative opinions about the game, and have opted to tread carefully.

While her opinion itself may not be special, the greater context around her willingness to come forward and express it is. There is a significant chance this is going to ignite widespread discourse in the community, and other content creators will likely issue responses. Based on some candid conversations I've had over the years, I can tell you a good chunk of the games other major content creators are likely going to agree with a lot of her assessments.

This is indicative of a tonal shift in the more visible parts of the community.

Right. Successful streamers are naturally guarded around divisive opinions because they rely on the goodwill of the fan community for employment. If one of them is now freely expressing her disappointment in the game (which was historically a trigger for the famously rabid FF14 fanbase to dogpile), it means that her community was already expressing similar sentiments, emboldening her to speak up.

Actually she already took half a year of break from FF14 and is going to take another break, that's how bad FF14 is, even people who take long breaks are bored by it when they return for just a day or two.

Yeah, I do not understand why taking a break is seen as this undilutable stain against the game by some.

I'll just drop one of my previous posts on the subject as an answer to that:

It's because, historically, it's been used to try and get people to stop offering feedback altogether. You can only post on the forum if you have logged into the game within a two week period. That only happens if you have an active subscription or, like me, you're only posting temporarily due to the free login campaign.

Many people can and do take breaks, yet when they return they find the same problems persist and in their absence the people who don't take breaks have vocally demanded that the game change to their liking. Which is precisely why the game became less of an MMO and more of a weird Second Life clone over time.

Some people would also prefer not to lose their house, since it's unlikely they'll acquire a new one if they lose it. This, in turn, is due to the housing system in itself being terrible - especially when you can own multiple account bound houses in TESO and take breaks for weeks, months or even years without losing those houses.

Then there's people who still find some enjoyment from FFXIV but aren't oblivious to its problems.

Furthermore, the monthly subscription fee isn't exactly a lot of money to some people and it's ultimately their money to do with as they so choose so the concern over 'wasting money' often comes across as disingenuous.

Her trouble is, she used FFXIV as an escape from WoW, then realized both MMOs are plagued by their own issues.

Does that really refute what I said, my old chum? I mean I may not agree with her overall statment, but she has a point there sure. More content and reasons to play would always be a good thing. As I said, I just feel taking breaks is a healthy thing, in every type of ongoing game. Plus it sends a stronger message then, well, whatever message these topics and forum give haha.

Zepla made alot of valid points, I always felt that I could always take a break from the game whenever I want, Endwalker tho is almost like the game is forcing me to take a break because there is simply nothing to do nothing to comeback too all of the new content is bland, the last Variant they released, I was so uninterested that I just did a speedrun and never touch it again, Island Sanctuary was barely relevant for 2 months I don't really see anyone doing that from my friends list, PvP que for CC is long and dead, and the relics are just awful and lazy, however I feel like we got those because of the criticism of the horrible grinding in shb relics (wich is kinda hilarious cuz now alot of people want that),
I really doubt the capacity of the FFXIV team to understand feedback, yeah they created alot of new content but is lacking on creativity nothing worth of doing, deep dungeon lived and died in one day HoH, PoTD are still way better, the relics removed all the grinding but at the same time removed any fun or feel of progression that previous relics had (yeah the fomo was bad but the content wasn't like Eureka, Bozja even BLU was part of the progression in the relics wich was fun to use), Criterion is just a bad joke sorry, CC wont carry the hole pvp in ffxiv, even the last moogle even killled any BLU relevance lol, and finally raiding felt very affected by the Data Center travel or even in casual pf stuff, if you want to use pf you will spend 80% of the time in Aether, Primal and Crystal pfing is like Dynamis their pf is simply dead at least during Abyssos each Data Center was alive but now you have no choice.

Something I will disagree with zepla in her final words in the video is that the FFXIV community is becoming very defensive, im sorry but it has always been very defensive and yeah they excuse or try to defend the devs for their mistakes they have and they shouldn't cuz that will ultimately kill the game if you are happy with the current state of the game well I'm very sorry but this game wont reach that 10 year plan that yoshi p was so excited about, EW feels like a flop wich is sad cuz FFXIV had a great interest from new players.


The FFXIV team thinks that creating new content is good enough and is not, they need to engage the players in short and long terms for both casual and hardcore and they have become terribly scare of it they dont take any risk anymore and its damaging the game, bozja was good, eureka was good, the relics were good they only needed some adjustments, not totally drop the ball, why give up so easily? they do this with alot of the content in the game.

You don't need to shill for yoshi so much. He doesn't care about you just like he doesn't care about ff14 growing in any way at all (as long as you stay subbed and give his company money to waste time on other games)
