I see one and only one reason to use the Content Finder (it's real name here) - if you're bored or have time for just one quick run of something, and nobody you know is on. It's a nice way of jumping into a group fast so that you're not doing nothing.

Personally, I won't have much use for it. with 8-man content its not hard to fill most spots with people in linkshells and on friend lists, and you can be certain of the quality of players rather than hoping you're not teamed up with 7 morons.

Even if the group I form is 6/8 or 7/8, I'd rather shout for the last spot. There's plenty of people I've done stuff with that I'm not in the same ls as or they're not on my friend list. If I see a tell from someone I know is decent I'm happier with that than playing dungeon roulette. I've had no issues finding a last 1 or 2 people for a run with a moderate level of intelligence in under 10 minutes. In fact, this is how I've made most of my connections in game. Perhaps the content finder would be more useful if it were a more useable version of the party recruitment feature (actually working, people apply to join your party you're recruiting for, you set a start time and select from your applicants). A truly random system that slaps a party together is going to be as underused as /search is now. If players have some control over it, I think that would end up being better.

With the content finder system there are a lot of assumptions going on. Just because someone does it one way doesn't mean that we are getting it the same way.

Just a few ideas to improve the system:

    1. As a priority, players are placed with other players on the same server first before other servers are viewed
    2. Players can rate other players, via a thumb up or thumb down.
    3. Players voted favorably are more likely to be matched together, and the opposite is true as well.
    4. As for gear and loot drops, a new system could be introduced that allowed the players to spend currency earned while in the event. Using this currency players would bid on the drops they want, and then any unused currency would expire after the event.

There are really a lot of ideas that could go into this type of system, so let's give good feedback as to how we think this will work better. It's already coming, so take your collective experiences and give feedback to the devs so perhaps we can have the best content finding system around.

You are so right. My knee jerk reaction was Nooooo! But that was based on my experience in Wow and how I disliked it there.

It is entirely possible SE has a better content finder planned that won’t turn us in to a bunch of afk looking zombies standing around in town queuing up and then being warped to soulless loot tunnels with a combo of noobs, a$$hats and good players not on our server.

I for one am both hopeful and worried at the same time. Once we get more info our fears can be put to rest/confirmed.

    Let’s wait and see…

Remember the whole "wait and see" approach to the bowharp fiasco. lol.

"It's not a bow harp you idiots, wait and see!"

    There are other examples too.

"Materia isn't going to just be a spirit-grind! Wait and see!"

"Airship ride is not just going to be a cutscene! Wait and see!"

Always expect the worst, experience dictates.

Oh I'm with you, I am actually expecting the worst. There are examples of things we freaked out about that turned out ok too.

I just want more info before I feel it appropriate to freak out more than I already have in the other thread

Hey, I have an idea. How about you spend the time making a group from YOUR server, however long it takes, if that is what you prefer. Or, you can use the content finder if you'd like.

    Problem solved, you have choices.

    nope no choice.

If you can get a party easier with finder most ppl will not seek on the party search there for party search is pointless making finder the only way to group up.

Once it is release it will be Finder only.

You still have the option to use /shout or the seek party system if you choose. If your idea of fun and community is shouting in Ul'dah for extended periods of time to form a party, more power to you.

The vast majority of people will take the easy road aka Dungeon finder, making it increasingly difficult to choose a different path. Much like being pigeon holed into one thing with the illusion of a choice.

LFG chat in WOW was far from dead. Most people preferred to have pre-made groups before using the dungeon finder, especially for some of the harder dungeons.
