The problem is when people ignore an easy solution that the company MAKING this game already had implemented in another game they ALREADY made and instead thinking hey we don't wanna turn this into XI-2...better do the exact opposite of what we did before...that was Tanaka's thinking and look where it got the game...a completely failed launch.

Eveything this game was missing that FFXI had people complained about not having it. And the ones raising hell about it now are mostly the people who either played FFXI and didn't like it, or never played it and want FFXIV to be a version 2 of their favorite MMO.

It doesn't matter what FFXIV takes from any other MMO this isn;t FFXI-2 this isn't WOW-2 or anythingelse-2. That certainly doesn't change the fact that FFXI has some very well implemented features that would make this game 10x better. (Maybe other MMOs do to idk.) But saying not to use it JUST BECAUSE is stupid and ignorant.

    This pretty much.

The problem is people are to averse to FFXI and WoW that anything either of these mmos have so much as looked at is deemed tainted and unworthy of FFXIV. I don't want this to be FFXI-2 but suggestions like "why can't we have these basic things such as mailbox or linkshell commands" aren't about turning FFXIV into FFXI-2, they're about it's 2012 and we should view ideas on their own merits instead of rejecting them straight away and trying to reinvent the wheel like Tanaka tried.

Petitioning for HNMS is turning it into FFXI-2, petitioning for drops to be passable "like in dynamis" (/cough Ifrit /cough) is just wanting the game to be less stupid in its execution.

Agree with Wevlum. I wish people would stop rejecting everything FFXI just because it's from FFXI. Hardly anybody is looking to make this FFXI-2. We just don't need to reinvent the wheel; a lot of the fail parts of this game can be improved quickly and efficiently by SE drawing on their previous experience.

Tanaka was a rebel without a cause. He tried to make everything different, and the result was just that everything was a pain in the ass. There's a reason why some things are set in stone. In a lot of cases it's better to improve on existing ideas that work than to just make crap up as you go.
