I didn't even defend XI. I don't want to make this a clone of XI but I'm not idiotic enough to be against bringing elements from XI.

The matter at hand is that it'd be awesome if you would grow up an learn to respect the fact that other people might believe or like something else.

What entitles you to tell others to stop believing in XI-2? I'm not saying you can't argue with them, I'm saying it'd be nice if you didn't start a god damned fascist movement.

I'm sorry for overestimating you man. Its clear to me now that certain people need for a comment to be blunt and not subtle or ironic. So here, I'll spell out for you what a person with a high school degree would have been able to read between the lines:

"I will not stand for some stranger to tell me what to do. The whole bit trying to sympathize with the reader? That's hilarious and infuriating. Every time someone makes a thread imposing their view on top of others' it makes me want to punch said person in the teeth."

This is not to start a fight with anyone but just to make some people here realize something.

I get that a lot of you love XI, i myself have great memories from it. But you need to understand that this game was never intended to be XI-2. Yes it has similar races and world but that it is because the same people did it and IMO they just lacked imagination.

Yes i agree with all the people saying that this game would have been better if it was XI-2, there is no doubt about that as XIV sucked big time. The game does have it's issues and still a lot to fix but everytime we encounter a problem, we should use our head to find an originals solution instead of just quoting a feature from XI. Even if the game could benefit from features taken from XI, there is still tons of ways to make this game better.

If you rather play XI or rather have XI features then features original to XIV then just play XI. You don't see me in WOW or AION or wtv other mmo's forums asking the devs to turn it into another game? If i don't like what it is then i just don't play it.

When the next S-E MMO comes out in 10 years, will you still ask for XI-3, or XIV-2? Do you want to play the same game forever?

Is the way XI made the only possible way to make an MMO? Of course not, don't be lazy and just try to come up with your own ideas and help make this game what XIV should have been and not a shadow of the past.

I know what spawned this thread. You think, for example, that because I don't want mounts, I must want FFXI, you think because I dont want content finder, I want FFXI. That's a facile conclusion.

Not everyone who is an opponent to ideas like that are FFXI fans. I personally think FFXI was fundamentally flawed. In any case, I play FFXIV because I like certain aspects of it; and I don't want to see those aspects eroded by stupid mounts which spoil the integrity of the game world and are a waste of development time anyway. I don't want to have a content finder that makes the game an entrance lobby to instanced content.

Mounts and dungeon finder are contentious issues in ANY MMO, not just to FFXI aficionados.

And this is the thing, I would like the new FFXIV to merely be an improved FFXIV. I know a lot of people wanted drastic changes, but if those changes were stupid mounts and dungeon finder and totally instanced world, how many people would have voted then?

It looks like some are arguing with each other when they shouldn't be because they are of shared opinion. This just goes to show the subject is a sensitive one and emotions get heated. I think it might impair our ability to understand what a person is actually saying sometimes. Let's do ourselves a favor and just take a breather and reassess before we click post.

On topic: This subject really just needs to be dropped. Whether an idea is "original" or "borrowed," they are all ideas people are presenting because they believe they would better the game. If we are going to disagree with an idea that is presented, I think we should just focus on the idea at hand (and our reasons as to why we disagree), less on where it comes from.

those threads supporting 2.0 are gullibly supporting the promised "amazing" game it will be, and those supporting FFXI are lost in nostalgia. Both are misguided.
