    Why get a pc?

If all you play is FFXIV than why not just get a ps5? running at 4k with no fps drops in citys, where on my old pc, no matter how good of a cpu i had it would always drop fps in the main citys and you can see by reddit or youtube even the newer higher end cpu have drops, it's the game and it won't matter what cpu/gpu you get. you won't get away from the fps drops. The only two things i can think of why pick a pc over a console is, Pc's can do more than just game and you can use mods/addons. which when it comes to FFXIV addons are not okay under the TOS.

FFXIV is the only game I play, and I don't want to overkill on hardware. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I hope this is the right place to post this.
Without any additional information we can't really help you effectively. The 12600k and 4090 is a bit lopsided, but if you are playing on 4k resolution it will probably be fine. If you are on 1080p or 1440p you might run into a bit of bottlenecking, though at 1440p I don't see it being too much of an issue.

Do you have a budget in mind? What resolution of monitor are you playing on? Do you play games other than FF14? Do you play games with ray tracing or can take advantage of DLSS and frame generation? Lot's of questions to have answered before we can realistically give any real recommendations.

My recommendation is to wait for Dawntrail benchmark. A lot of players will be posting their benchmark scores with their PC specs.

It will also give a better idea about how the current hardware preforms with the graphics update we're getting in 7.0.

Frankly, even though the recommended configuration may change, an RTX 2060 for 1080p/60fps is relatively weak.

The 2060 performs at a level similar to a GTX 1080, a graphics card that is now over 6 years old. It's not very useful to upgrade to a recent graphics card like the RTX 4070-4090,
unless your current graphics card is significantly outdated, especially considering that for FF14, the CPU plays a more crucial role.

Unless you intend to play at maximum settings in 4K, you'll need to invest in a robust setup,
however, a 4070 or higher is still excessive for FF14, unless you plan to play other recent games as well.

Not really a joke, however some of these parts is on the way out of the system, so they need to update with something similar and available.

Yes the game is going to require more juice to play, that is how it works and that is why PS4 is on the way out as well.

But if you got like a 1070 or 1080 or something then that is way overkill for this game as it is, also bigger textures and more and higher resoultion and so forth... bumps up the space required as well.

This pins it at 60fps with the 4k texture pack, max everything, with reshade...
PC used currently. i7-8700 3.2 GHz
    PAlit 3070
    32gb ram
    Prime Z370-P mobo
Bunch of mixed NVME, SSD and platter drives.

Edit, just turned vsync off 170fps or so. So lots of room to add more more stuff to eat performance if you want. Or just go into big crowds. I'm alone out in the wild currently.

You seem to be weirdly insecure over someone asking for advice on a pc build by claiming there flexing or bragging. In no way were they bragging or acting like a pc elitist. It always seems to be console gamers coming into these threads claiming people are bragging because they saved enough money to buy a decent pc and asking for advice from knowledgeable people. How dare someone save up enough money for a pc and asking for advice and people are willing to help out.

PS5 does drop frames though. Digital Foundry made a great video about it a while ago.

To just play XIV, I wouldn't even bother with NVIDIA honestly. An AMD 7000 series card will give you top performance in XIV at a lower cost. Same thing for the processor. A Ryzen 5 or 7 would be more than enough for just FFXIV. Get yourself a fast SSD though, that does make a huge difference for load times.

I play on ps5 and pc and have noticed fps drops as well on ps5 that i don't get on pc. I don't know why that person would care someone is buying a pc just for ff14 when maybe they want a multipurpose device for various other features as well.
