That's partially a lie though, some MMORPG's have good storyline, PVP and activites related to combat, WoW is a good example of that. It doesnt need to be only one of those.There is nothing inherently wrong with a game that does not appeal directly to hard-core gamers.
It's just different.
That is the beauty of multiple games in a single genre market. If an MMORPG is popular despite not being directly targeted at hard-core gamers, there must be something else in the game that keeps players subscribed.
This is true of every MMORPG. Some have excellent PvP. Some have a good storyline and plenty of activities not related to combat. Some even have a cast of familiar characters who apparently never permanently die over the current 20 year lifespan of the game.
