Players should be rewarded for spending the time and effort, and working as a team, to clear the most difficult content. So, it has a valid function of existing and to those players it isn't irrelevant.

Surprised in XIV that it isn't more powerful than other games. Raiders v. Casuals in other games I've played had a massive chasm in gear. (Of course the raid content vs. casual content also had a massive chasm in difficulty.)
