I'm glad you spotted the intended irony in my post. LOL
Required, no. You seem to be under some illusion that they are necessary to make a point, but they are not. On the other hand, making a concise point seems to require more firing neurons than what some are willing to dedicate.
Honestly, for the most part, it's fine, but some people are under the impression that the problem is not with the text, but rather the person reading it. When the inverse is quite as easily true in the case. - Like come on, do you really need to use comparisons against aircraft flight to try and make the point of "Well I've raided in this game, therefore, I know how it all applies in other games".Exactly. If a post is well written and makes good use of its words, then I don't see a problem with having a longer post. But if you're going to make essays where a majority of its words are simply fluff and padding, then why should I waste my time reading that if I don't feel like it is worth it? I'm not here to grade student papers. It has nothing to do with a short attention span or an inability to read longer posts like Vel and DPZ2 are saying. I simply don't have an obligation to read essays if they don't have much substance hidden beneath the large word count.
Frankly, I'm not entirely bothered but if people are going to treat reading on a forum, as if it's indicative of anything in the real world, especially with something like academic pursuits, it doesn't really apply, at all.

Yep. I'm not going to devote my time to reading an essay if it's clear that the person writing it is padding their posts with unneeded fluff. I shouldn't be expected to give time to those intent on wasting it.Honestly, for the most part, it's fine, but some people are under the impression that the problem is not with the text, but rather the person reading it. Also, while a good word picture or comparison can be helpful to get a point across, a bad one just makes you sound like you have no idea what you're talking about. That's why it's a good idea to leave them out unless it really fits.
