They'd have to more or less change up the whole materia system (not that its that great to begin with imo) but that could provide the same results from gear swaps without actually.. 'gear swapping'. SE could try to avoid sending the "i h8 gear swaps" crowd into a rage while not boring and limiting the rest of us to be locked into one build per fight.
