Very much this. It's almost like our local trolls feel personally attacked.

Them: "We aren't trolls."
Someone: "Trolls are bad..."
Them: "WE TAKE GREAT OFFENSE TO THAT!!"

You calling that simping is pretty much you being the kind of negative poster that the OP is decrying.

When someone says trolls are bad - this is an agreeable position. When you or those like you attack those agreeing and they point it out, that's not them simping. That's them calling out your BS.
