It would be fantastic if the forums (and mainsub) didn’t act like this was somehow a good thing or something that they should defend

If the devs make unpopular changes (5.0 healers for example) they should be forced to defend their decisions not have half the playerbase that’s willing to praise them doing literally nothing or even defending them releasing less content

i honestly can't think of another industry where customers are such paypigs lmao, i feel like it's really just the entertainment industry, no other industry gets away with this, ff14 honestly isn't even the worst, there are gamers out there who unironically defend activision or supercell selling lootboxes to children and get them hooked and use their parents credit card, it's wild

Makes me think of literally every gacha game in existence. Like when Honkai Star Rail came out and people were praising it to high heaven, despite the predatory as all heck monetization.

This is because people don't realize when ever they buy "digital goods" , they are not really buying anything or obtain anything. It is all smoke and mirrors.
Imagine you go to any real store, you buy clothes, but the moment you leave the store your clothes you just bought are gone, and you can only wear them inside the store, you can keep the receipt though, and when the store eventually closes you also cant use the clothes anymore.
You are essentially paying a service that can be replicated to infinity and has no actual value, all the prices in the shops are made up, you can argue it takes more time for a dev to make a mount than a pet so the mount costs more money, but what is the justification for a mount to cost 30$ or 10$.
