wasnt this a thread from like 3 days ago.
why wouldn't it work, other games have it /world chat on /world chat off, what doesn't work about it?Nope. It would be good to have a channel for communicating in a certain area, but not global. That's just not going to work.
I've suggested in the past that players near Aetheryte be able to link into a shared channel with others near crystals/nodes. It's a great idea, really.
Oh Christ here we go again about global chat channels. Perfectly legitimate suggestion and immensely useful with zero drawbacks, and we're going to have a bunch of people crapping all over the idea because they can't imagine that global chat channels can be turned off or filtered.
Why not just alter the "search" function to include a "Forming Party" option and let people search those. Seeking PT searching works, when people use it. Last thing we need is yet another shout channel.
Imagine every "(Can I Have It?)" Shout turned into a seeking pt for event, and every "(Do You Need It?)" Shout turning into a search for Recruiting for event. MAN what a concept!
I hate shouts... But searching sucks. If I need a repair, I should be able to "search" for someone offering repairs and it should put a marker on my map. If I want a Moogle PT why can't I search for a pt leader offering it?

NO NEVER END OF DISCUSSION
I just don't think the devs would go for it. It would be like some odd sort of worldwide telepathy...? Right now we have linkpearls that do the job, so who knows? Maybe they will issue 'Grand Company Linkpearls' in future, maybe global ones.
The chat system does need some work. It's so awkward getting to know people, especially if you don't even know what language they speak. My social interaction is, at the moment, largely restricted to the people in my LS.

yea, from a realism perspective it wouldnt make sense, they may have to make some sort of global link pearl that you can get from a quest or something to tie int o lore so lore hounds immersion don't get f up.I just don't think the devs would go for it. Personally, I can't stand unrealistic things just happening (yes, that's a ridiculous standpoint in a fantasy game...) but I wouldn't deny a global channel just for that reason. It just seems to be that SE is also thinking along the lines of keeping it a realistic fantasy. And I respect that.
This is still on the front page in the dev tracker.
So why was this thread made.Currently, we are unable to implement a shout between all of the city-states because it would make the servers become more laggy due to the increased number of players being added that are receiving the shouts. However, we know that this is a much desired feature, and as such, we'll definitely be keeping in mind as we move forward.
