"use the damn search function" should be an auto translate term

if used properly it does EXACTLY what you want above, all three of them, without opening the floodgates for global chat stupidity and drama flamewars

i had my fair share of global chat channels in other mmos,
10% used as intended, 90% stupidity and spam, it was especially painful in AION
thank you for the offer but i have to pass

Well if they turn it off, so be it. Again an additional feature can always be beneficial to users who have a use of it. Like it, use it, don't like it? Disable it.

I'm not sure why this would be so heavily used when one can just use the world chat all the time.
Because the game will be evolving and more regions will appear, then expansion packs with even more areas. Regional chat can be useful to talk about things related to a whole area, could it be NMs hunt, quests, events in the area etc. You do not want to use a global channel for everything.

But to know that you must have played something that's not XI or XIV.

This should be do-able with the search functionality. It is there (albeit not lovely to use or look at). Perhaps an enhancement to the search functionality would do us best. Yes shouting could work, but I believe a better search tool would actually be more beneficial to everyone.
Level range chat has absolutely nothing to do with search functionality. The chat system is an active way of getting not only a party but also informations on where to go for a quest, what kind of camps are good or bad at this range.

Do not forget, this will mean to create an ability to search for a channel (to see what's out there) then join it. Then perhaps a way to kick people off of it? Then there will be requests to manage it. It starts to lead the way of LinkShells... Not saying there is no use for it, just not sure how high on the list of important features this is, and how widespread its use would be.
Again, did you ever play anything that's not XI or XIV, where proper communication exists? First of all having the ability to create public channel doesn't have to be linked with a search channel feature. The goal of such a feature is to have channels that are public yet not permanent since they will only be advertised on a mouth-to-mouth basis.

These can be used for various reasons :

    - Seasonal events that requires a huge amount of players
    - Proper raiding, i.e not 8 players. (Healer channel, DPS channel, tank channel...)
    - Organized PvP (when we have that in the future)
    - Any PvE event, community driven (like some players decided to go to Natalan with 50 people just to kill everything and have fun)
    - RP events (like weddings and such).

As for credentials, channel creator is leader. When leader leave the channel, oldest players in becomes lead. When everyone leave, channel is gone.

If someone is abusing the channel, just like for anything else (/say, /shout, etc.) place a GM call, report him, and something will be done. (GMs cannot do that much in XIV, yet harassment can be dealt with).

I'm not sure SE is trying to clone other MMOs. I think they would like to make their own MMO. I think they should be respected and allowed to try out new/different/unique things that are not copy&paste of what is in fashion in other worlds. And if what is in fashion in other places are of such great importance and desirability, then there are other places that offer those features. What is happening here is different and interesting with the concept of LinkShells, as it starts to promote 'large groups' or 'organizations', and creates a whole new social atmosphere. I think its been mentioned many times by many people that the social aspect of interaction with people here (knowing who is who, and who are good and who to avoid) is a very strong aspect of Eorzea, and not something you find in other places.

Although, yes, LinkShells could use 'more features', I believe what you are seeking is being reserved for 'Private Companies', and LinkShells will be more 'social/chat' places, whereas Private Companies will be our 'End Game LS of Old' so to speak. (...)
It's not about cloning other MMOs, it's about making a system that works. No one is asking a game to be original when it comes to communication, you want something that works. Exactly like the loot system or basic features such as item sending/receiving etc. There is absolutely no need to innovate there, unless you manage to improve what has been done in the past decade, which SE is just unable to do.

And sorry for saying that again, but to me you really lack experience to be able to see the full picture. Chat system and LFG search are two completely different things that must work together and not against each other. It's not one or another. Both are used in different ways.

    Hello,

Perhaps we are talking at cross-purposes? This thread was mostly focused on lots of global shouting/chat channels/etc for the purposes of forming parties and engaging in content. What you are suggesting is focusing more on just general chat.

Everything I said, I was focusing on the original topic of using shout for the purposes of forming parties (which I believe an enhanced search function is a better goal for).

What I think you are focusing on is general chat channels as a form of general/topic specific chatting (not to replace another party forming mechanism).

My apologizes for not understanding that you wished to discuss a slightly different topic here, about chatting in general.

To go slightly-off-topic and discuss general chat channel channels: I see no reason why this would be bad for the game, and could enhance various aspects.

To go back-on-topic: I would hope that an enhanced search functionality would be implemented before additional chat functionality was added, as I think that is where the greatest need is now (and the featuer that would be more used if done sufficiently well and its use encouraged).

    Thank you.
