Dragon's Dogma had an MMO but it eventually went down. It was never released to the west but someone got the source code and is working on bringing up a Private Server. I think it's called Dragon's Dogma Online Revival.
Just did a serach and it's exactly that. This is what it looks like with at least one vocation.

Apparently you have a private room for your character you can customize? Not sure on that.
Re-reading some of the posts, specially the ones made by OP, reminded me of something from my childhood: We had two types of lemonade in our household, lemon and orange. As a family we more or less flip-flopped between which of the two we liked and that was the type that got bought. At somepoint we had all shifted to liking the lemon one better, so my dad announced that we would finish the orange lemonade that was left but that he wouldnt restock it and buy more lemon instead. 7 year old me felt really bad for the orange lemonade that no one liked anymore, so I deviced a plan: I would mix the lemonade with something to make it taste amazing to everyone (including myself) again!
So... I mixed the orange lemonade with basically every liquid I could find in the fridge, including water (pointless) and milk (digusting).
Needless to say it didnt work. But that was okay, we eventually went back to orange after a while.
I often think about this "lemonade experiment" when I read about people who've been playing the game for years and years and seem burnt out or unsastified. Its not a real surprise that the game would become stale over the years for someone whos playing it every day or every week - thats okay, thats normal. But each time people with a background like this ask for (sometimes massive) changes to the game, I remember the milk in my orange lemonade. Trying to force something you used to like to change so that you might like it again just doesnt seem like a good idea... walking away is okay, and coming back after a while to check in again might be a lot more helpful than trying to reinvent the wheel.
Dragon's Dogma doesn't even seem to have a glamour system, from what I can tell. I'd have to equip the gear I like the look of which would affect my stats in battle. And with a worse combat system and it being a tiny unofficial private server without maintenance, support and updates, I'm just not interested at all.Dragon's Dogma had an MMO but it eventually went down. There isn't a better game for me out there than FFXIV. If there was, I'd already be playing it.
I pay to keep my houses, I play there at least a few days a week.Just a genuine question to all the players out there.
You are paying ~$112 per patch (Almost triple that if you have max retainers).
For the price of a full AAA title, is the content that XIV offers you in a single patch worth its subscription cost?
Personally i would say no, its not.
I have the maximum retainers addition, and it costs me ~$350 per patch to say subscribed to XIV, that is the cost of 4 full priced AAA new release games, for what is around a month, maybe two, worth of content.
After realizing this, i can't in good faith keep throwing money at a product that isn't receiving enough attention by its developers, player numbers between major patches fluctuate to the point where the game becomes basically unplayable in places like Materia.
So what do you spend your $112+ on per patch cycle?
EDIT: Seems i was wrong here, patches are 4 months, just feels like 8.
So i guess thats still $220/patch which is still pretty bad for the content that is released.
I have 2500+ days of subscriptions.
I've stopped counting how much FFXIV is costing me since I've been playing it with my 14 attire of Glam (13,50 € each) and some mount and collector's edition because I wanted to.
It's obvious that since the big Maj games have been split in two, there's been a void, but not a week goes by that I don't get excited about doing dungeons and raids for fun. Or maybe an idea for glam, Isle Sanctuary and other joys.
I did the same on WoW and I'm doing the same on my favourite MMO.
Why does that piss you off?
Some people pay more than for cigarettes or junk food. As long as it's my main game and I keep coming back to it even if I'm playing other games, I don't think it's a problem.

Still Useless... To have so many Commendations in 2024
Since when is FF14 turn based? From what I read in 5 minutes it doesn't have flying or housing, the combat system isn't turn based and you aren't playing in a world full of other players.
Right now in FFXIV I have a housing and Gil project going on, trying to make as much Gil I can so I can decorate the house. The crafting and market systems are always keeping me busy. I'm also buying things for my collections and doing weekly raids to get the new gear for glamour. There's no reason for me to play another game right now, even if it was free. That would be time spent away from the game I actually want to play.
lalafell and pvp. I realized l will be a terrible monk for a long time. That give me something to work towards
Raiding, even if it became very stale and easy after several years i don't feel like "forcing" myself too much in raiding, just doing the bare minimum to finish savage tiers.
Roleplay is still pretty good even if after a while you explored almost every topics / themes and subjects of some of the most sought after litterature genre, but i got the luck to stay in touch with some really good roleplayers and stick with them for a long time to enjoy many interesting things.
Housing to a very small part.
Playing FFXIV more of a "on the side" game nowadays, but i still come back more actively for the raids.
I pay my subscription because I enjoy playing the game, mostly.
Not sure if Guild War 2 would be up your alley either then. I will say it has a 100% better glamor system in that everything equipped at one point or another gets tossed into your glamor pool to be used freely at any time. You can also dye each section of the armor as well. You start with a preset selection of dyes and earn more as quest rewards. However the game is also action based and not tab targeting much like Dragon's Dogma. This means you connect only if your weapon connects when you swing it.Dragon's Dogma doesn't even seem to have a glamour system, from what I can tell. I'd have to equip the gear I like the look of which would affect my stats in battle. And with a worse combat system and it being a tiny unofficial private server without maintenance, support and updates, I'm just not interested at all.

Another good thing is that the entire base game is F2P and the expansions are buy to own which means once you buy the expansions...you don't pay for anything else because it is not subscription based. It's a great game to have on the backburner if FFXIV seems to have a lull in content. You basically use GW2 until the next patch for 14 hits and then you jump back in.
If FFXIV is enough for you though then that's great!
When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.
