EW is the first time I haven't been subbed throughout the entire expansion. I've subbed 5 times so far, once for launch and 4 more times for each patch and each one failed to have any staying power. If 7.0 looks to be more of the same I'll just spend my money elsewhere.

However the game is also action based and not tab targeting much like Dragon's Dogma. This means you connect only if your weapon connects when you swing it.
It's not, I tried it with a plant character once. And the combat is why. I like to select my enemy and then perform a rotation limited by the GCD that does damage based on the order of my attacks and not based on my angle, position or reflexes. The same applies to healing. Yeah, a tab targeting game and not a turn based game like I called it earlier by accident.

It's not about the money. No other game offers what FFXIV does and more. Like I said, playing some inferior other game is time spent not playing the game I actually want to play. I'm not interested in doing that.

With retainers included I pay 200 € per year. When I see that you play through some AAA games that cost 70 € in 20 hours or less, then I would say I get a lot more out of FF 14.

For the price of a full AAA title, is the content that XIV offers you in a single patch worth its subscription cost?

Personally i would say no, its not.
I have the maximum retainers addition, and it costs me ~$350 per patch to say subscribed to XIV, that is the cost of 4 full priced AAA new release games, for what is around a month, maybe two, worth of content.
After realizing this, i can't in good faith keep throwing money at a product that isn't receiving enough attention by its developers, player numbers between major patches fluctuate to the point where the game becomes basically unplayable in places like Materia.

So what do you spend your $112+ on per patch cycle?

EDIT: Seems i was wrong here, patches are 4 months, just feels like 8.
So i guess thats still $220/patch which is still pretty bad for the content that is released.
to AFK in town all day long. Jealous?

I think if you play one game for 9 years it can become just part of your life and hard to let go. Maybe some sunk cost going on. I’d recommend OP start by letting go of the max retainers as a start at the very least if she’s unhappy with how much she is spending. Items you have on them probably go unused for years so clearing out items rarely or never used won’t hurt.

Should save some money and move to a basic sub if she’s not ready to fully let go.

Posts like these seems mostly about OPs personal dilemma. I’ve been there before with MMOs. Like EQ2, Aion, and ESO. Each of those games I spent over $5k on and years of time. Aside from Aion that destroyed itself, it was a hard process initially to step back.

it is a dilemma especially after the OP created this thread.... leads one to suspect one of these threads is not in good faith

I pay to play the game, obviously.

To keep the whole examination short, I'll just simply summarise it - Because not all people view every piece of content in the same way, and similarly what people see as content differs from person to person. There are still people who have months of 'content' just simply because of how they elect to play the game, and what they actually see as content within the game. Some people have a broader definition, and some people are more narrow with it. People with a broader perspective on 'content' will naturally have more to do than those that do not.

Edit: If I had to say, for me personally if I were to look exclusively at Endwalker then I would question how much value I get out of it - But looking at the entire game as a whole, past expansions inc., there's still enough there to warrant and justifying my purchase of a sub - After all, it is not just Endwalker that I am paying for - But who knows, that may someday change, where I selectively subscribe.

I pay cause I'm a housing hostage. I have a large house, so if I ever take a break, I have pretty much 0 chance of ever getting it back. I'm hardcore burned out on the game right now and would love to take an extended break, but housing says no. I'm only logging in a few times a month to keep my house and stuff.

30 days on, 44 days off. You're not required to maintain your subscription full time, just often enough to keep on top of the 45-day timer.
