There was actually heavy moderation back during the HW/SB era. But then back then there were people crying about unjust bans. I don't think I've personally seen any unjust bans back then, only heavy-handed ones. Like people who are generally nice and well-liked got a permanent ban on their first offence. They could probably stand to strike a balance between heavy-handed moderation and almost none at all tbh.

Quite a few of my friends were perma'd from the forums back then. One was perma'd for saying someone's argument was fresh from their posterior, in terminology that one might call crass.

Words far worse than that are flung around with so much more wild abandon these days that they find it hilarious when they browse the forums without an account, just reading the insanity.

Moderation still exists. It's called the Block Function. Notice how certain elements REALLY get uppity when they get ignored? They also hate how people suggest ignoring troll elements. The only thing I see now is people COMPLAINING about trolls. I don't see those elements at all anymore.

The most damaging thing you can do to a troll is ignore it. The slightest response to them is life energy to them and people just can't help but feed and feed and feed.

Once they feel ignored...they will necro old threads that are controversial to watch you guys argue amongst yourselves and sit back and laugh at you just chomping down on bait. If an old thread gets necroed...let it die. Let their alts necro it over and over. That's against ToS and is reportable. It's not if people contribute and fan the flames over again.

I would try to return to being back on topic, but "Do you want people who disagree with you to leave? Y/N?" is a bit silly and can't really be legitimately responded to other than "No." really. No offense, OP.

You say this but people have responded with more than just a "no" and weighed in on the topic. If you yourself have nothing more to say than one word then theres that. If you find the question silly there's not much I can say other than the question may not be for you to answer. That's not a personal shot or anything btw.

Also people here. You all need to realize that certain posters are here trying to bait you into saying something to report you over. I said it before but now that mods seem to be back certain folks are trying to weaponize them by creating "proof". Thevanguard being a clear example. Best to pay them no heed as their aim is to just cause issues. Focus on those willing to talk about the topic at hand

I disagree with a lot of things, even you often. but since everyone is different, I see that as normal. world would be pretty dull if we were all exactly the same (something the devs should remember about jobs but thats another thread)

they do not need to shut down the entire forum, but they do need to get rid of general, and firmly moderate whatever is left. general is no longer useful for any kind of reasonable discussion either praising or complaining about the game. when you have one user with an army and multiple personalities, necroing threads and posting a variety of topics designed for only drama... the general forum should be shut down, it serves no game purpose and is more likely to turn people off from playing.

Moderation is what's needed really and I don't think we're going to receive enough of it.

It's not really just the alts at this point. A lot of people take the disagreements so personally that they've taken to biased self moderation. Why even have the forums at all if someone is just going to create an excuse for their disagreements to discredit the other person and use adblock to hide their existence? Why bother sharing the same space at all at that point?

I'm not looking for people to magically change and agree with each other. I'm mostly just looking for people to calm down with the alts, and to be a tiny bit more accepting of the fact that other people with different opinions exist. Even some of the other people in this thread that agree that moderation should be applied seem to have some biases that suggest that the moderation be applied in specific areas or to specific groups of people.

Remove the forums for a while and then we'll come back to them later to see if people are willing to be a bit open minded. If they aren't, then the forums can stay gone. We can also add more moderation afterwards but I really feel that in general we need a bit of an attitude change otherwise, assuming more moderation is applied a lot of people are likely to be resentful of it, especially if moderation is actually applied fairly.

Also worth noting that the threads they necro often tend to be their own, older, threads.

I never really understood or grasped those forum arguments like "game is dying" / "game is the worst ever been" / "game is way too easy" lol. Not saying those opinions are invalid...but golly gee wilakers lol, there's plenty of other things to play. If it's not jingling your bells or tickling your pickle, it's alright to search for greener pastures in other directions, right? Idk, *shrug*
