The last contest had split male/female categories. The majority vote is flawed, since I can see two scenario happening:
- Hairstyles which everyone like at least a little will dominate the votes, which means it's going to favor mid-length androgynous styles.
- Votes will be biased towards Femra and catgirls, since those are the majority.
This system leave absolutely no room for more niche customization or hairstyles which work better with the less favored races. And since the contest is probably everything we'll ever get in the next four years, this will only worsen the diversity issue we already have.
Also they eventually added every runner up, including these:
If that pompadour ain't niche I don't know what is.
I think this shows how a player votes aren't great. Even when separated into gender categories, none of the male winners have a "rugged" look. Only 3 of them are actually short(ish), and two of those three have a serious case of anime spikes. One of them is a straight up joke.

Clarification: I would say my desire is the ability to have new customization be distinctly masculine, just as there is a plethora of new customization to be distinctly (overtly) feminine. There is nothing wrong with being feminine or androgynous, but is disheartening to see majority of new customizations heavily lean in one direction.

Call me pessimistic but I feel if the players were to decide, it'd be heavily inclined to feminine and cutesy styles, but if it was up to the devs, they'd go for androgynous bobs and bowl cuts to cut corners.I am totally with you in wanting more masculine hairstyles (I have been wearing the same hairstyle since HW), but if you think that an in-game poll wouldn't tip the scales MORE in the favour of feminine hairstyles I don't know what to say.
To get a balance of hairstyles, they need to not make it a player vote. It needs to be the judges only. It will always be heavily skewed towards feminine if they let the playerbase decide. Look at the popularity of the short bob from pyros/great lengths compared to the Firmament short styles. Or the girly ponytail vs the androgynous ponytail from Island.
Meanwhile, those of us who want more short/masculine styles...
The icing of the cake is the last hairstyle literally proves people will go nuts over a hairstyle that's clearly "not for them" even after getting 7 consecutive ponytails and braids, but when someone playing a Roe, Hroth or Highlander speaks out about getting tired of getting cutesy cuts, they're told to shove it ...yay double standards!Clarification: I would say my desire is the ability to have new customization be distinctly masculine, just as there is a plethora of new customization to be distinctly (overtly) feminine. I wish they would make an anime adaptation of 1.0, like they recently did with Nier automata, or allowed the a new anime for Dragon Quest : Dai no Daibōken (that kept a pretty good average animation lvl for 100 episodes, even the bad episodes would be considered more than decent for most of the current production). It's funny how much it flip flops, too. They both want to seemingly pretend 1.0 is an entirely separate thing but also pick at lingering 1.0 plot threads when it's convenient.
They should have more confidence in that era as far as I'm concerned. It had a lot of problems but the zone design and character design/characterisation was a lot better. Even the cut scenes were less stiff.
A show covering the story from the fall of Ala Mhigo untill the 7th calamity. It would be the perfect marketing product to get people into the lore, and the story, while not spoiling anything of the current game. They could slightly tweak the story when needed, could follow many character to give us all that (Younger Raubahn & Estinien - his backstory was in ARR, Louisoix, most of the scions before they were the scions, even Solus as the emperor - well not as a main character, but make him appear, it wouldn't even break the revelation about him).
If well done, how many people would want to go into the game. I'm pretty sure there is a public for that (I would), and that they would reach a far larger audience than with their free trial.

Nor S-E did host any fanfest at south hemisphere. Just USA/Canada, Europe and some asian countries.
Players from the southern hemisphere, the only event they can take part on is those marked as in-game and watch some propaganda about events that will never be held on Latin America, Africa, Asian countries whose names is not "Japan", "China" or "Korea", or even most Oceania countries.
When we get the details for the hairstyle contest, it would be nice if we get some guidelines about what is and isn't feasible to implement for players. It would help entrants to design things that push the boundaries without getting automatically rejected for going outside of what is possible, and also give us a better idea of which NPC styles we can or can't hope to see made available.
10?
Damn......Time flies.
I'll take things that never happened for $50 Alexa.

Both the page and this thread are about what I expected.
