I'm not deep in yet, damn 50 hour weeks, but I am enjoying XVI immensely as well. It is refreshing to see protagonists that take lumps and don't have all the answers.

I feel though, at least from my perspective, that XVI is taking the route of, "Predictable to the player, but the characters aren't in the know." Which is honestly a great way to tell a story, but it might make some silly billies think the story being told is bad cause there's not gonna be a lot of, "twists" or "subversions of expectation."

The people who have an issue aren't upset about the message, they're upset about who the messenger is. It doesn't matter what opinion he has, people will always find ways to get mad over what he says.

Yep. Aveyond could have a completely good take on something and some of the haters will still ridicule him. That's just what happens to someone who criticizes FFXIV. Not just on the official forums but on the r/ffxiv subreddit as well.

If the story is really that good, perhaps I'll be tempted to get it on PS5 sooner rather than wait for a PC port. I would rather play on a PC and I usually don't care too much about spoilers, but if the story's amazing as people are saying it is, then playing through it before I get spoiled on anything might be worth it.

Yeah, might as well. SE has no date set in stone for the release of the PC version. It could take a year or more.

Have you ever read the boy who cried wolf? Eventually people stop taking what someone says seriously solely due to who is saying it. Aveyond has a history of nonsensical takes combined with his refusal to engage with anyone in good faith. He's a preacher standing on his own soapbox, and if you're not there to agree with him, you're simply ignored. So let's not pretend that him having a good take means that we all need to say "yea, that was a good take" Besides, his 'good take' here is simply a 'FFXIV sucks, FFXVI good'. Him writing it HERE of all places is simply just another of his soapboxes, trying to get attention.

Enjoying the game's story / style quite a bit- easy to take it seriously, the new lore gameplay features are cool (codex / on screen pertinent bubbles), visuals are nice, more linear areas than I'd prefer, itemization is too similar to FFXIV (too many 'just a number'), certainly wish I'd have more things to kill so far (not finished but combat could happen more often in story segments), combat is fun but some buttons I wish were more forgiving like being able to animation blend into a dodge or magic burst more consistently (I swear the exact same pattern will not always magic burst, or certain actions take you away from dodge longer than others and so you just watch as intention doesnt happen).


I've been having fun and my comments on wanting a transformation job with heavy FFXVI inspirations and a new MMO akin to FFXII was to FFXIV still stand (would be an ARPG essentially, with FFXIV and WoW lessons and more GW2/ESO inspirations as well).

Hold on...he finally says something positive and you wanna jump down his throat? I'm not a fan of the guy and yeah he came back and not a lot of people will be thrilled but if he isn't starting any trouble then leave it at that.

That's actually an Aesop fable which has its moral explicitly stated to be, "Liars are rewarded with never being believed, even when they bring the truth."

Aveyond hasn't lied to us, duped us, or fooled us. He merely states his opinions in a flamboyant way. I see why you draw the parallel, but the moral of that story doesn't apply here.

As for bad faith engagements, that's pretty much the entire forum in a nutshell. Very rare is the person who comes here, looking to have their mind changed. Most folks come here to entrench themselves further in their own beliefs, and to find those like minded in an environment where their piece can be said without disappearing under strange karma systems that are actually just popularity/meme polls.

No one has to suddenly like anyone, but there's nothing inherently bad faith about posting your opinion.

Thread TLDR:
Forum User known for threads (that are very adamant/vehement about their experience) outs a couple of users that will always take things as face value, whilst others who haven't been around long.

Or aren't willing to risk being a fool, thus they take things in a case by case scenario.
[Thus, leading to unnecessary back and forth. Which only Results on the Hypocritical Assumptions for thee, but not for me.]

Far as I know, they could of done worse and posted elsewhere. as Technically CBUIII does apply to this thread. Even if they Never See it.

Rare does he make sense, and the few things that did are the "Fair Enough" kind.

Another Personally, FFXIV Probably could of had a more detailed, and effective story to most general higher approval.
but it doesn't due to having to be saved from the brink, it's technology, and most of all.

Whilst XVI:
They really didn't hold back, they Even Collaborated with other studios of theirs.
Didn't hold back on their Intent.

I'll probably see the conclusion of the story in some weeks as the sources I watch get there.
The most we will get with XIV is them leading us to something new within the restraints they've had for the past decade.

And this is precisely what the Aveyond critics want people to believe. They're looking to undermine and belittle Aveyond's criticism of the game by claiming that he's dishonest. To these types of people, those who criticize FFXIV are intellectually dishonest liars while those who defend FFXIV are ethical and principled. Why people like this go to such great lengths to suppress criticism, I don't know, but many times I just end up ignoring it.

Oh, I 100% agree that the guy has an exaggerated sense of self-worth and can have bad takes, but to insinuate he's a liar like the other poster mentioned? I'm going to disagree with that.

my boy who cried wolf example was a poor choice. My point was that Aveyond is unreliable due to his previous statements/posts/attitude, and therefore discounting what he's saying because it's him who's saying it is not as crazy as some are making it out to be.
