Not sure why anyone is surprised by it. This is investing into the future. FF14 isn't going to be here forever, and the game is still at the top of the MMO market. Course a lot of you that post here somehow think Summoner is bad, when it's being played now more than it ever was.

D4 a challenge? It's a macrotransactionfest and is extremely unbalanced with a select few builds (with the right RNG dropped loot) destroying the hardest difficulty already without any effort. Class Builds don't matter when the top class/build is that much better than everything else. Such as Whirlwind Barbarian being better than every Druid Build combined by miles.

The only "Challenge" is Streamers doing Hardecore then purposely making silly mistakes to farm content or purposely playing the worst builds as those are more funny to look at then just destroying everything with the best build.

Lore is good? It barely acknowledges the events of D3, the game that came before it. We still don't have a conclusion to Leah's story which was promised during D3 but was promptly cut as they instead chose to chase the Esport scene and Seasons.

D4 is so full of macrotransactions at launch and will only escalate as players already beat the entire game in less than a week. Why, Players can already max their Battlepass in less than a minute if they have a credit card and has a FOMO infested Item Shop that resets weekly thus encouraging players to get all the premium currency that they can so that they don't "miss out", a strategy that WoW has used and still uses.

You seem to forget what FOMO is (they are purposely cycling items every week to create the FOMO effect) and that with them having to constantly develop new content into the store means that they are taking away time/resources from the game. See D3 where they abandoned their promised story plans, after Reaper expansion, and just went full in on the Season grinds.

Course I don't expect you to understand how FOMO works or a cycling shop. It's just beyond your understanding.

Not to mention that the game was at min - $70, then there was the ultimate edition and being able to start a week early and can literally buy out your Battle Pass just as long as you want to use your credit card. Something that anyone, who wants to "compete", is required to do or they may as well not even bother.

theres no fomo at D4. its a base game that is on the GAAS model. seasonal will have the stupid battlepass with goofy cosmetics only, the free track has all the in game stuff. the store cosmetics are all ugly, unlike the cool ones here. i played quite a bit of diablo 4 so far, a cool game, JMO

but i like ff14 the best

Diablo 4's cash shop is extremely subtle, to the point of it being easily missed if you don't go explicitly looking for it. That being said, it's strange to call out Blizzard for supposedly being 'greedy' when it comes to optional purchases when posting on the official forum of a game that has emotes locked behind statues that cost a good £200 with limited availability.

It's the nature of the industry. Game development is extremely expensive, especially for games that are supported with new content over time. So optional, luxury items are dangled before players with a disposable income in a way that is ultimately no different to how optional, luxury items are available at a supermarket or restaurant.

I think it's fine to criticise such things, though consistency is key. In general, I take complaints from game journalists with a hefty pinch of salt on that front.

FF14 online store says hello XD. SE is just as guilty for stuff like outfits and mounts so can't say Naoki and party are innocent if you are going by that logic
