Years of pent up frustrations with the direction the game has taken, catering all content to people that want to turn XIV into IMVU, and don't want the be challenged by even the smallest difficulty.

It's been 3 weeks, i am a much happier person. I have explored multiple other games, even picked up some side games to play in the 6 months between content patches that XIV has.

Guild Wars 2, Fantastic MMO, the world actually feels alive, people constantly active in old and new zones alike, actual world content with rewards that makes it worth completing.

Diablo 4, Another good story, although post 70, the game is utter repetitive garbage and I've already stopped playing it at level 92. Hopefully seasons improve the game, or else that will just be dropped in general.

ARAM games with friends on LoL, nothing serious, just messing around having fun.

This is the true way to play XIV and remain happy with the game, and i finally understand that. NOT playing the game is the secret to enjoying the game over a long period of time.

For 9 years i have been blinded by the simple truth that XIV is not a main MMO. it is made to be played a few times per year, catching up with content and then moving back onto other games.

Thank you to whoever told me to go play other games, because XIV will not change regardless of how much feedback you throw at it, and coming to that realization has allowed me to move on and improved my mental health significantly.
I'm there to. For the first time in 8-10 years (however long it's been since 2.0) I've been on an extended hiatus. Actually got a housing demolition warning I had to rectify.

Playing TOTK, Diablo 4, and soon to be the upcoming FFXVI is showing just how stale this game has become.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

Honestly I cant trust people saying that they've stuck for *x number of years* because that literally explains the burnout. It was bound to happen no matter what. It finally did to people and it didnt help for them that the expansion set itself up for being the finality of the 10 year arc of the game.

Obviously a lot of people who played for that long took that message for it being a good stopping point for sticking to this one game for so long.

All of this and a Bag of Chips.
Thats why you shouldn't stagnate and stick to only 1 Game. It can be good for a while, but eventually you will get tired of it and burnt out. This applies to nearly everything in life.

Even Food, Your Job, Music, and Relationships.
    Eventually, you need something new.

Yeah, a bit off the tangent here but funnily enough EXP is called "Routine" in german. Thus the message is never stick to the grind or literally the routine even if its tempting. I had so many burnouts from XIV, yet it draws me back. Going at a more healthier pace tho.

My 14-year anniversary is next week and we're still going strong. Maybe you just haven't found the right partner?

Doesn't mean you have to change them out like underwear. I've had friends I met in EverQuest in 1999 that are still my friends and we still play games together. I met my hubby 27 years ago and we've been officially together for 22 years now. When it works, it works. Sure, if it doesn't then find something that will work, but you don't always need something new.

I don't know...I've got a friend that I've known for 30 years. We still hang out regularly, and we are like another member of each others family. And honestly, there are VERY few people I would even be able to consider having a friendship that lasts even 1/4 of that. Not even people I knew in school have lasted as friends as long as this one.

Right, correct. Anyway, why don't you ask yourself the following:

Why didn't the poster take a hiatus at any other point in the past ten years? Why now? Do you think there's some magic formula that says that gamers are done with an MMO after exactly ten years, no more and no less? And how did you come up with this? Research? Surely it can't be that content sucks right now, right?

You won't answer, because you're just pulling more excuses as to why FFXIV is "the best game ever", "totally worth the sub", "the content is fine", and "if you don't like it, unsub". And, of course, your favorite: "if you don't like it, that's your fault!"

The denial and copium is mind-boggling at this point. Don't you think that perhaps there's a possibly that the content just sucks right now? Or is the super-human Yoshi-P and CBU3 perfectly capable of performing double the work in the same amount of time? If they are, then surely we'll get twice the content now that FF16 is done, right?

The FFXIV fanbase is its worst enemy. It's sad to see this game go the way of WoW, but I guess we all have to pack it up and move somewhere else.
