    Lets say your team is full ranged dps and healers and the opposing team has 2 melee and ranged dps or a healer. 90% of the time the melee will just dive right in and try to go ape$#!+ with completely no regard for their support (This even happens in top 30 games). You could;

    1. Fall back far enough that the melee dive way out of range of their support allowing you to kill one of the melee in 1 GCD (or their ranged support depending on your teams positioning/map)

    2. Play a defensive game where your focus is interrupting/sheilding burst from the melee while you bring down a squishier target and then pushing a 5v4 advantage

    These type of match up force you to explore different strategies and playstyles. There are some jobs that even thrive in these "disadvantaged" comps (bard pre and even post nerf, and scholar to name a couple) but aren't played often since they aren't perceived as meta easy wins by the majority of the playerbase.

    This rarely happens at high level in my experience. And the melee usually is by definition tougher than anybody else in your team which usually means your people are gonna start dropping dead first and snowballing from there on.

    I play ranged a lot more than anything else and I'm very sensitive to the concept of frontlines and backlines. If you have nobody in front of the team as ranged, it's generally very thin ice until somebody gets jumped by melees and you can't do shit about it. If you spread out to exploit your ranged advantage you make yourself vulnerable vs melees (esp DPS). If you stay close to each other as a pack to defend against melee harass, you make yourself vulnerable to massive AoE pressure from their ranged.

    Now I do agree that staying somewhat loose but together as a group is still the way to go, but the main problem remains that if you ignore a melee they'll start being such a disabling nuisance to your ranged that they get the upper hand with this, and if you focus it down to punish them from engaging alone or too much, you'll lose too much time comparatively from the enemy team. It becomes especially egregious when you face not one but two melees, as one alone as you say, can still remain vulnerable.

    I'll also freely admit that I made a very clickbaity title with that thread. I'd read it more as "melee discrepancies can bring advantages to who has the most melees". In fact, I'm truly convinced that a full team of melee DPS (or perhaps with one good pocket healer that's not SGE) will stomp anything in random matchmaking. Fortunately, it doesn't usually happen since the matchmaker seems to try the bare minimum to spread "roles" at least a little bit, so if you end up with 5 melee DPS you'll probably have 3 or 4 in your team as well. Guess my point is anyway, without melee coverage, all ranged jobs actually have a non negligible support part in that they do not stand well on their own.

    Okay, thank you for your contribution.

    I’m really serious. If there’s a content that piss me off to no end and it’s not changing. I don’t play it at all. Stopped playing ranked once SE implement rank decay. If we did had some form of communication, the experience would be 100x better, but gotta protect ppl’s feelings you know. I don’t think the players would have a melee problem if that was the case, or even ranged, healers and all.
