Yes yes, there isn't a need for it, so it won't be added

The thing is... it IS Final Fantasy!

Better compare it with FFXI, than turning it into any other MMORPG.

@OP... You are always going to have people compare Final Fantasy # to the previous versions. Why? Because it's a franchise that's been built up over two decades. People compared FFVIII to FFVII, saying this was missing, or w/e but in the end they either accepted the finished product for what it was or they didn't. The same goes for FFIX, FFX, FFX-2, FFXI, FFXII, FFXIII & FFXIII-2. But for what reason? People LOVE certain elements to these games, and notice when a piece is there or missing in the next game. The differences between these games and FFXIV is that they were all delivered as FINISHED products.

Now FFXIV is something that's still being crafted, molded, shaped into a finished product. And the public has a rare opportunity to give their input and possibly reach the development team with their idea(s). These forums aren't just about players discussing how perfect FFXIV in it's current form, but what FFXIV could be, should be, or needs to be. If everything the FFXIV development team did was perfect, why would there be a localization forum, or a bug forum, etc. The development team requests feedback to make the game better, and uses constructive criticism when it's useful and appropriate in the context of this game. When you point out that you don't have experience with FFXI or FFXIV I really question why you are sick of these kinds of threads. Do you realize how large of an impact people have let FFXI make on them? Whether you grew up playing during your teenage years, or that transition into adult-hood, or even beyond that you spent a significant portion of your life committed to one game.

It's about nostalgia, it's about enjoyment, it's about making FFXIV a better game than FFXI. Unfortunately there are people who take this over the top and ask for a copy & paste FFXI but I would say the silent majority of players who have played FFXI want ideas LIKE what was in FFXI but NOT exactly what was in FFXI. Beseiged was cool, was it the best it could have been? Absolutely not. ZNMs solved the problem with camping for hours upon hours, could they have been better executed? Of course. The majority of players are silent, and the people on this forum don't speak for them. We are but a small minority, and of course you are going to hear the same threads rehashed.

People want to sell you on this idea, or this idea, or another. Because if an idea has enough traction with the player community, the development team might actually think seriously about including it in this game. Instead of productive threads, we get derailed/trolled/flamed threads simply because they are sharing their viewpoints. Whether you agree with their opinion or not, people should at least respect what they say as their opinion. If you grew up playing FFXI you would understand the desire to help craft this fledgling game into a successor of FFXI. I'm certain people don't want to play the exact same game, and while I quit before the Abyssea expansion I can say truly that I can't play FFXI ever again. My character progress is gone, my friends are gone, my linkshell is gone. While it's simple enough to start again, that game was part of my life for 5+ years... I want to remember it as it was and not as it is now.

So no, I will not go back to FFXI simply because you don't want to hear ideas/suggestions that were in FFXI. Take the threads on the FFXIV forum with a grain of salt, and if you don't like the idea/suggestion express that and ignore the thread further. We don't have to agree, but we certainly don't have to have long drawn out arguments. There will always be two different viewpoints until this game is a FINISHED product. 2.0 is supposed to be the start of it finally being finished, until then I would suggest to you that you try to find ways to improve this game instead of letting it stay the way it is.

I know what you mean; just 2 years ago pre-Abyssea, I thought I'd be able to retire from FFXI one day without ever having to say that it's because the game started to suck. I am one of those, as those that have seen what I've said around here know, that actually enjoyed ToAU/WotG the most, hell I even enjoyed the original 3 add-ons (ACP and whatever the other two were) and I was even over-hyped for Abyssea.

    R.I.P. FFXI

You could say the addons ACP, MK, and Shantotto were the beginning of the end, but they still had the spirit of the game in them.

FFXI as it is now is even more like FFXIV. It's like they went backwards. The parties in FFXIV are just like parties in Abyssea.

There's a reason why there are tons of ex-FFXI players playing this game. It's not what it used to be. It's gone.
Exactly. For me personally, it seems FFXI-Abyssea could've been saved if Abyssea access at least had a Lv.minimum restriction of 75 though.

Hey like I said though, if Hamlet defense resembles Campaign or Besieged in any fashion it's far too late for XIV to not "be like FFXI" using the logic of you people who hate that game so much.
    Wonderful point.

Yeah, Abyssea woulda been great if it was 75 cap. You can't even do the majority of the quests at level 30 anyway, you definitely can't engage in battles at 30, you barely could at level 75 lol.

Being SE's 2nd MMO. You would think they would start by looking at XI as in what worked and what didn't on the core (Server structure, dat file structure, limitations from console, etc).

This is the biggest issue I had with the original dev team. Besides graphics, animation and some decent storyline/lore though limited. It feels like they didn't learn anything from XI at all. Which is why I am glad we have new direction and are getting a relaunch.

Being a Final Fantasy Series player, former XI player (2002-2010), and current Beta+ XIV player. I simply expected lessons learned from XI (their 1st MMO) to advance XIV from the core system structure and that didn't happen. I don't want XI-2. However, many good things from XI can work well with XIV.

    - I feel BCNM Style fights can work well in XIV. Even replacing boring Faction Leves with this is an advancement IMO as faction leves just feel like a poor BCNM attempt with little reward.

    - Grand Companies finally gave us a taste of lore/history of each city. The original storyline barely touched this and even some of the Class Quests gave more. Otherwise the cities are just what they are, different in appearance.

To the OP, this is Final Fantasy. Every FF has redone elements of the series, from mobs to lore (Primals) along with new ideas which this game does have (Armory System) for example. I'm sorry but your inexperience shows.

I can go on, but I feel it's just a waste of time. We will see what actually happens in 2.0.

    This thread is uh.... yeah

Posting a thread, telling people to go play FFXI, because you don't want ideas taken from that game...

Lets inspect ideas (in FFXIV) borrowed from previous FF titles.

    Leveling Up
    Moogles
    Ariships!
    Primals
    Exp
    Jobs/Classes
    Magic
    the list goes on

we should probably kick these things out of the game because they relate to XI. I wouldn't want to reference that game!

People who WANT to play FFXI SHOULD go play it. But the people here want to play FFXIV, and just wish to see some of the things that made FFXI so much fun and memorable to them brought over. And they have every right to voice that.

Whether you are a FFXI Diehard or a "nostalgia glasses" theorist you have to agree that XI did some things right if so many people still love it. It isn't wrong to want what made the last game great to be brought over to the next game.

While FFXIV isn't made as a direct sequel to FFXI, in a way it IS. It's a followup on SE's mmo endeavors bearing the Final Fantasy title. And when a sequel comes around you expect it to have what made the last game great, with additions and improvements.

So I'm sorry, but this argument is just stupid. These forums were made so that the developers could see what people wanted in the game. If they make a reference to FFXI it is because this is what they want and where they remember it from. And being that this is in a way a sequel, this kind of info, what made people love the last game, is EXACTLY what the development team needs. It needs to know what kind of content has been proven to work in the opinion of their players.
