Xi2 is fine by me
Morticous - Senior admin of.... well of nothing. (cool picture here)
I tried so hard to not read this rant, but it's just so inviting. I only read the OP, I don't care what others have to say, this is simply my opinion in response to the OP.
I did love FFXI until a year or so ago, abyssea ruined it, again idc what anyone has to say on that note.
Just like you said, this game will incorporate things from XI and I at least haven't said "Give me back XI in a new box." Most of the posts I have read don't say that either, they say things like "You know this one thing in XI was actually good and worked well, how about adding something LIKE it."
Most people that did not like XI, I don't hold it against you, make thier comparisons to something they did/do like.
This is how we share our thoughts on things, we compare to things we have experience with, both good and bad. If you've not made a single comparison then your the messiah come back round again, and we all know that's not the case.
People compare, people state opinions, it DOES NOT mean they don't want something new, but rather they want to give you a place to see their view from, a common window to look through if you will.
Why is it that whenever someone posts something about something jackasses feel the need to say "Go away, you don't want we want, you CAN'T be here cause your a big fat stupid head".
Grow up.

There is nothing wrong with requesting a rip off of BCNM fights when SE invented them. There is nothing wrong with making a U/U that drops occasionally to trade for entrance to said BCNM (see taper / beast men's seal).
There is nothing wrong with having a good economy based around rare items that could be sold.
There is nothing wrong with asking for things that have worked so well in the past, we're not asking for san'doria hear, we're asking for content that doesn't have to be explained in detail via patch notes!
I want to log on and see something in the game and think, "holy cow I did a version of that 6 years ago and loved it". There is nothing wrong with wanting to do it again on the back of a new and improved game engine.
You realize, in diablo 1, 20+ years ago they had barbarians sorcerers and amazon chicks running around, not to mention old man Cain. I assure you diablo 3 will have all that and some new.
Just the same, the next batman game will Probally have... Wait for it... The joker in it!
Back in 1995 when I was playing Warcraft 1 we played orcs and humans, epic smack down right.. Well, years later they made Warcraft 3. New and improved! Awesome undead race to play... But they didn't take out the orcs and humans.
You can't wash your hands of a franchise, if you're going to make a final fantasy game Cid better be in that shit or people going to complain.
As far as the OP goes, if you don't know who Cid is, or why he's there, makes you the last person on earth that gets to say he should t be there.
Don't bring your weak ass no ffxi experience ass into the conversation saying these should be 2 completely separate things. Quiet frankly, your opinion matters little.
Don't be telling brain sergeons how to open up a skull if you don't know why the cerebellum is there.
Thank you have a nice day.
The problem that the 11 vrs 14 arguments will always have is were the line is drawn. Some people want an exact replica of 11 with 14 graphics, not only will this never happen but I wouldn't care for it myself. There are some good ideas that can be pulled from 11 but most of the things people want(imo) are the worst. Mages shouldn't teleport, i don't want gear swapping, i hate drop down menus, ff11 battle is way to slow(pretty much turn based). I don't mind if some ideas for content are borrowed but as for the mechanics of the game, no thank you. There is nothing wrong with requesting a rip off of BCNM fights when SE invented them. @ Waldo it fine to have nostalgic feelings about FF11, I do too, but what I personally would prefer is SE/Yoshi-p look at modern MMO games, take what they have improve upon them whilst using the whole FF franchise to build the storyline and lore.
You only need to look at the 2.0 image to see it has a lot in common with WoW.
I would love for them to bring certain aspects of 11 over, LFP icon, level sync, mandragora's and Tonberries etc, along with the long string of HNMs and such.
That being said I would very much like the game to have aspects of WoW and its many clones (UI mainly) because many of those systems are much more intuitive and easy to use than the clunky mess that 11 and 14 has.
Things like level sync, ksnm, HNMs and the sort didn't happen over night, and they shouldn't in this game either. That doesn't make it wrong to ask for it though.@ Waldo it fine to have nostalgic feelings about FF11, I do too, but what I personally would prefer is SE/Yoshi-p look at modern MMO games, take what they have improve upon them whilst using the whole FF franchise to build the storyline and lore.

While I wouldn't be opposed to anything from latter final fantasy series, they can not and should not be rolled into one patch, or even 10 patches. Level sync for instance didn't come til XI had been out a good 4-5 years.
And I'm major for gear swap in battle by the way. If it can be done, no reason it shouldn't be. We managed to run around with 10 instruments to be a good bard (example) when we had 50 slots inv, no reason we can't do it with 200.
That's another topic for another day.
Why can you want WoW but I can't want XI?@ Waldo it fine to have nostalgic feelings about FF11, I do too, but what I personally would prefer is SE/Yoshi-p look at modern MMO games, take what they have improve upon them whilst using the whole FF franchise to build the storyline and lore.

I don't want an XI clone of course, but like you said, bring what was good in WoW(and it's clones), why not bring what was good from XI?

@Title:
If you want WoW/Rift/TERA/SWTOR, go play those games. If it's allowed to make XIV "become like WoW" it's allowed to make XIV become like Square Enix's last Successful MMORPG under the same series. Hey like I said though, if Hamlet defense resembles Campaign or Besieged in any fashion it's far too late for XIV to not "be like FFXI" using the logic of you people who hate that game so much.

@ Waldo We won't have 200 inv slots in 2.0 though, Yoshi-p has already said he doesn't want gear swapping during battle so good luck with hoping for that.
@ Elexia if Hamlet is anything like Campaign I will be most happy, this is a good example of what Final Fantasy 11 did right.
See above.

Yoshida isn't against it. He said if there's a need for it he'd add it. What was specifically stated that WOULDNT happen...is Haste.
