That would be nice, and allow for some very flexible partying, assuming that partying becomes something other than 8x BLMs seeing who can float the highest DPS.
I've actually hoped they'd do something like this, where each class would have a job/specializtion tree, and perhaps even combining some branches,If we get multiple jobs per class (Which I betting on and actually hoping for as well), it would be cool if some arcane magic user (Maybe Arcanist?? haha) could choose between Astral DD/time mage and Umbral DD/enfeebler as it's 2 jobs
Lastly... It would be cool if there was a melee class that focused on this.
When you talk about mage/melee hybrids, people always say "Red Mage"
But I was suggesting a melee class that can deal astral/umbral damage and also have A/U weaponskills
Different than a dark knight (Although I do love Dark Knight)... A dark knight was a melee DD that had access black magic spells.
Dark Knight is more MRD or GLA + the new Black Magey Thaum

Multiple Jobs = Advanced Jobs
I play WHM and BLM as my mains classes/jobs and don't find them lacking at all.I think that another significant problem they'll be facing is the way skill/abilities work now. Mage jobs that only have 15 abilities/spells are kind of lacking. A pet job(summoner maybe) that only has 15 abilities would probably have 0 for themselves, or only have 1~3 avatars to summon, or an avatar for all 8 elements, an attack, heel, stay. and 4 left for other abilities.
Yeah we're probably gonna be waiting til 2.0
If they make a pet class I would rather learn skills which summon pets instead of skills that tame wild ones like in 11.
5-6 different pet skills (pets which level with its master) sounds enough to me and then 10 other skills for the actual player.
There is a good chance that the summon/pets will get their own action bar like in other mmo's, the pet battle system doesn't have to be anything like 11's and I hope it isn't.

I wonder what guild houses are in Ishgard ... what with all the priests we hear about over there.
By logic of the OP next job should be a pet job since we have 0 pet jobs, 2 magic jobs and 5 war jobs.
I voted for pet + drk though since 1) no pet jobs 2) I like scythes and hybrid classes.

I want to see innovation, SE can manage innovation, they've been doing "original" for decades, I just want to see that continue.
I'm also not saying don't use things from other games that work well, XI was not all bad, WoW(as much as it pains me to say it) was not all bad, it's clones are ... well they're clones. I don't want a clone, and hope no one else does either, or you have to wonder why your not playing one of the preexisting clones?

My fear here is that each summon, seeing as it's a player using it is going to take up a slot, so if there's 8 summons you've lost 8 slots. With the current setup that's more than 1/2 of a classes/jobs total actions, yes I know you get cross class actions too ...
In keeping with "other MMO" traditions yes pet combat commands/battle style would be a wholly different bar and if that's what they choose to go with, ... great?
I'd like to see something that's "new" not XI which wasn't wonderful with the whole menu > ability > pet > action > sub action; thing. But just pulling from WoW or it's clones leaves something to be desired as well.
I imagine we'll get both varieties too, tamers and summoners, like every MMO has.

A couple points:
My guess is that SMN's abilities will be separate from their Summons, so don't worry too much about the ability limit.
Archanist will effectively be a Green Mage - but I would prefer that Time Mage was it's job.. we even have the sugarloaf hats already in-game![]()
awhile ago they had posted we may get it before 2.0, i keep my fingers crossed for a surprise in 1.23Like everything else I bet it's being held off for 2.0, but if it is being held for it what point will come out?
Really hoping that stupid player poll isn't going to decide which class is next. There's already enough melee jobs with 60% of them being melee players. So deciding between two melee jobs or a caster job and leaving it up to the player population to decide is not right.
There's only 2 Disciples of magic and 5 disciples of war.
Is the a general ranged time frame which they will want to release a new DoM?
