Wondering if they will put cross region data center travel eventually?

This is just a speculation and I can't remember if they did/ever mention something about possibly making it so you could travel from NA to EU like the data center travel, but the reason why I'm wondering this is because I went on my XIV app for the first time in ages and noticed that they made it so I could see my previous friends list from EU since I played on EU for ages lol. I wonder if this is just something they added to the app or if it might be a poke in the direction of cross region travel, but I don't know, and want to know what others think of this. I'm just speculating though, I don't know if this would ever be a thing or if it's just a little thing they added to the app lol

Didnt they say that was the original plan before sticking to only cross DC travel?

Yeah I think they plan to someday but currently it isnt feasible atm from what I heard

If they made it cross region everyone would dogpile on one DC. Sadly I think it as a feature was a bad idea. Or it needs to be further limited.

Yoshi-P mentioned quite recently that he was working on that at PAX East.

"Another thing would be—and this would be quite an undertaking—trying to connect all of the different regions, so that no matter where you are in the world, you’ll be able to sync up with and party up with other players."

There seems to be evidence it'll happen soon like what you just saw as well.

Ohh I see, I didn't know he addressed that, so that's pretty cool. And yeah I can understand the pros and cons with this, but I'm sure there could be some way they would work around it. I kind of feel like they wouldn't implement it into Japanese data centers but I'm not sure.

He said before that it's something they would like to do but mention that there are extreme cultural differences between the JP playerbase and the NA playerbase and isn't entirely confident we would get along very well. He is concerned of a cultural war happening and the damage it could do to the sustainability of the game. Such as Party Finders being labelled "JP or NA only!" to join. And he isn't wrong. Just look at the cultural opinions JP has on mods vs NA. It definitely would cause a community stir.

Keeping systems closed due to culture is such a backwards thought process and just encourages more separation and xenophobia. He should be more concerned about how it affects existing servers and DCs, not how it affects culture.
