If adding player "marriages" to be same-sex is going to cause a tidal wave of sand to fill one's nether regions, just turn the system from "player marriages" into "player unions"; we don't really need to hang this system up due to the semantics argument people feel the need to make IRL. I know plenty of people who chose characters of the opposite sex when they play games/MMOs, and if they want to add the system at all, open it up for all.

I don't understand why people feel the need to dig the topic twenty layers deep with BS (polygamy, pets, pedos; where is there equal rights!?!?) just to be obnoxious and exclusionary. Player unions have been around forever, they don't need to reinvent the wheel here.

It IS a terrible thing that 50 year olds think its ok to marry 10 year olds however it is not a terrible counterpoint.... as it is real. At what point are the boundaries set an acceptable form of discrimination?

It is a terrible counter point. People who think LGBT marriage is comparable to pedophilia and bestiality are obscenely stupid. That being said, it's not like anyone is going to change any minds on the internet, let alone a FF forum, so it's irrelevant to go much further into this conversation anyway. They should probably just respond to this thread and/or immediately lock it to save themselves the trouble down the road.

Do you think anyone is really going to say "Man they let same sex couples marry ingame...what about my highly illegal fetish with minors?" If they do...well I'm sure hillarity and police would soon arrive. Don't play a idiotic card like that in a serious discussion. Hell the people whining about the "Holy sanctity of mariage" (Lulz) have a better argument than you do.

Ok except for the fact that 10 year olds and 50 year olds posing as 10 year olds both play this game? This game as well as any other MMO of any sort has kids, adults, and weirdos in both catigories. Out of all the badass things they could/should add.. this one thing that is worthless and brings soo much negativity is somthing you feel so strongly for? Its garbage content, potentialy dangerous and offensive to at least two very large parties. This game should be about beastiarys or adding/ abolishing anima, building LS boats for battle, but not wasting my monthly sub money and SEs resources on stupid fluff content of the such and until there is 1million different things to do in game i will NEVER be for this one.

I think i got what i wanted to say across and now will retire from posting in this silly post.

My point is not to leave same sex marriage out of the game (i realy dont care what one adult human does with another adult human as long as it dosnt impact me).. but to leave it out completly as it is still a sore subject for many others as well as a stupid idea for a ff game at that.

Bestiality = coercive
Pedophilia = coercive

No one is being forced into a relationship through homosexuality nor polygamy, however neither children nor animals have the ability to truly consent by any intelligible means.

I know I personally don't agree with the idea of "gay marriage" in the real world, but I also don't agree with government-sanctioned marriage to begin with.

I prefer your solution. Let the players create their own bonds, but no sanctioned marriages in FFXIV.
