Your numbers are more like the pure Cutscenes, not combined gameplay.

Also, you're forgetting just how EXHAUSTING even doing 2 hours of pure Visual Novel a day actually is. Let alone 100 hours? 200? 300? Is it gonna be up to 350 next expac?

Endwalker alone took me almost 50 hours straight. Non-stop Visual Novel - It was painful, I took days off from work and no lifed the shit out of it. (I even skipped cutscenes)

Yeah, you're an MMO goblin. Casual players aren't finishing these expansions by snorting them, they do in-fact walk around and try to figure stuff out. They do take months.

Maybe don't do that? Maybe that's why you are so burnt out? You no lifed it.

I love this game and I didn't even do that lol. I didn't even take time off work. Lack of paid vacation will do that to you.

Yeah, it wasn't a great idea to no-life it. But I'm just saying - Even me crunching like that, took absolutely forever. Then you combine all of the MSQ, and try to do that back to back? There's no way.

It's like telling someone to go play Phoenix Wright or Steins;Gate for 300 hours. You think they're gonna finish that in a month? Hell no.

I'm also an MMO goblin, but I realize that those experiences (each expac) are 3-4 weeks of normal gameplay for non-goblins. lol

I was playing a few hours a day when my son was first born since I was home on maternity. This was on an alt that I created and did just the story and it took me about a month to just get through ARR which tbh is probably my favorite story second to heavensward

No, this is complete and total nonsense. Playing 2-3 hours daily for a week would be 14-21 hours.

Considering there are 84 dungeons in total, around 50 in msq, and a fast dungeon run is 15 minutes, that's already 12.5 hours to complete. Longer if you do duty support. It also doesn't take queue time into consideration. Or trials. Quests.

It doesn't take a year playing casually, but let's not spew your own nonsense while talking about someone else's nonsense.

I don't think I'd commonly say it takes a year. But a year is also way more common than we'd like to think. I have several friends (and my SO) that are going at that pace, treating it like a normal FF and only able to put a few hours in a week.

Being the MMO goblin that I am, even I can't imagine finishing all of the ARR-Endwalker MSQ in under a month. I'd be so exhausted.. Imagine doing each expac in a week. That's a full-time job of just Visual Novel.

Square Enix will never make a true MMO for the simple reason that Square Enix isn't content with making money. They want to make ALL of the money.

We've seen how the Square Enix suits have unreasonable expectations. Tomb Raider sold a respectable 3.4 million copies in 2013, and yet Square Enix somhow considered it a failure for not reaching their sales target. Just how many millions were the suits dreaming of? FF15 sold 7.7 million copies by 2018, but Square Enix axed the second wave of DLC and then cannibalized the team. And, like most companies in the video game's industry during the 2000s, Square Enix abandoned FFXI (which was their star cashcow during the 2000s) in favor of trying to make a WoW clone, simply because WoW managed to reach 12 million subscribers, even though it is ridiculous to think that one could replicate a black swan. Now Square Enix is pouring their money into mobile games. Square Enix chases the biggest pot and ignores or halfheartedly plays the smaller ones.

The audience for a true MMO like FFXI exists. True, you won't get 12 million subscribers, but you will get more than enough to turn a profit. The popularity of oldschool private servers is a testament to that fact. Just look at Nostalrius. If you have 800,000 people wanting to have a true MMO experience (and you can charge $15 a month to them), perhaps you should provide a way for them to do it. Most people would say "yeah, that would be a worthwhile investment". But the potential profit of that isn't as high as the ultimate success of the genre, which suits use as their benchmark of success.

The only thing I hated about it was having to resummon them after EVERY level. But considering how long it can take to get a level sometimes, that's a mild complaint. Shantotto still best destroyer.

I feel like it was made to encourage community interaction. I still remember one of the boat rides I took in that game. BRD telling a story while the DNC did their dance, then all of a sudden the ship gets attacked by an NM. The BRD stopped, the DNC stopped, and everybody on ship banded together to defeat the NM. Then we ended the ride with the BRD telling a ballad about how we all destroyed the NM together. It's something I don't think FFXIV will ever be able to compare with, outside of Eureka.

Same for old school Perfect World, Lineage 2 and Arche Age. The classic MMORPG concept failed for multiple reasons. Yes, you have market for it, however, see how classic basically died as the time goes on, later on resurrected (or raised lol) by hardcore mod. Nostalgia is a dangerous bet with limited lifespan. Blizzard didnt resist the attempt to fill official classic servers with shop stuff. They changed, the industry philosophy changed. Games are not art anymore, they are business. Deal with it.

The boat ride between Selbina and Mhaura when pirates attack is one of two scenarios. You're over level 50 and can contribute, or you hide inside and hope someone doesn't train skeletons in there (someone always does) that will just one shot all the low levels in there and now you just lost exp and risk level down because you rode a boat which was the only way to get to those ports quickly as the alternative is take an airship to the cities and then run the rest of the way.
