Yeah, but the thing that was beneath the surface was really shallow. Using Graha as an example, he's been this one note fanboy for like 2 years straight. If you're into that, great. I'm bored of it though. Only so many ways I can say this.
It's unfortunate that the character that baited us into believing she died 3 to 4 times is the one that sells the most. I agree with the ShB isekai. Which is why I'm hoping 7.0 will be more of that minus the old squad... but I'm not holding my breath, really.I've been wishing for another shb-tier isekai arc just to get away from everything and start fresh for almost this exact reason. I'd be thrilled at just, a new squad. But way too many people love the old squad, so that's probably what we'll get to keep for the next decade.
All you're asking for is the same platitudes with new faces, if it's still the same people doing the same writing.
And if we do get new characters, it will be whatever race the writers want to add.
Actually I'm just glad that he is happy now after all the death he's seen. The fanboy thing comes off to me as a coping mechanism.
Maybe if are we lucky Zero will die and be replaced by a meat puppet femra Azdaja.
All I want are more new and grounded characters. I can let the platitudes slide if such characters are interesting. I know I enjoyed a bunch of their stories when they were still developing.
That's an interesting approach. If the story ever went somewhere with it, I think it'd be a genuinely engaging character arc to explore. Lots of people cope with trauma by being overly cheerful and helpful to others. But we went through all of EW with the writers sort of just... solidifying this as genuinely who Graha is. There's not a lot of evidence to suggest that he's even coping at all. Man's just happy af that he gets to adventure with the hero he read about in books. The situation you suggested though, to me that's depth. That's something I would like to actually see in the story. But there rarely seems to be room for it. Characters don't get to sit with their trauma very long in this series. I'm now thinking of when Krile got abducted in Stormblood and they placed her in the mindfuck echo capsule and basically ran traumatizing memories through her again and again and again. When she got out, she was fine afterwards. We didn't even get to see hints of her struggling with the ordeal after the fact.
Idk, I'm rambling now. This game has a wealth of characterization it could do involving the very real theme of what happens to soldiers when the war's over, and endwalker could've explored that in post-ew, but it largely didn't. The more I think on it, the more it feels like a bit of a missed opportunity.
I personally don't mind what type of character we would get, I mainly want characters with interesting stories (I although I'd kind of would like to see a female tank for once, but other then that I'm not to fussed), I hope in 7.0 we Get a new cast at least, I don't even mind the scions but at this point I think most people have had enough of them, I think 7.0 is also our biggest chance of actually having a new cast of characters, which I feel like we need honestly.
