MrHappy said this??? That's incredibly surprising to me, I think that's actually the most scathing (as much as he can be that is) thing I've ever seen him say about the game.Mr. Happy made a similar video and I'll borrow a perfect quote of his to sum up Endwalker:
"It feels like the game doesn't even want to give me the option to play it more actively."
He goes to explain tomes aren't inherently bad... as an option but the only option.

It kind of goes to show the state of Endwalker when even he's criticising the expansion as a whole since his takes are usually more on the neutral side. Another good quote from his video is: "A lot of that probably wouldn't bother me and probably wouldn't bother other people as much if it didn't just feel like the game was just trying to get me off of the game." In reference to the divisive responses to content, by it both Ultimates, Abyssos' balancing issues, Island Sanctuary and Criterion. He brings up another good point that pretty much nothing this expansion has been a runaway hit. Everything has at least some hiccups or missteps.
"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."
Housing lottery 0 bug PTSD, the fact they actually managed to pull that one off is comical, absolutely 0 testingIt kind of goes to show the state of Endwalker when even he's criticising the expansion as a whole since his takes are usually more on the neutral side. I can forgive this one. In fact I can forgive a ton of bugs if the changes they are trying out are innovative and engaging. Problem is we have gotten super milk toast changes and additions to the game it's easy to hate on them for everything.
I would rather a rough gem than a polished turd is all I'm saying xD To me, it's the recent design philosophy I truly hate.

This is such a tired and lazy "rebuttal". Nobody is asking for infinite content but rather for content to have some degree of longevity. People want a reason to log in and actually play the game. Speaking for myself, I played plenty of different games throughout Heavensward, Stormblood and Shadowbringers but I never felt I needed to, Covid delays notwithstanding. Endwalker, on the other hand, doesn't have enough content to last a week much less five months. Which is something that goes unacknowledged a fair bit here. The patch cycles have gone up a full month from Stomblood yet there is less lasting content.

Honestly I've been shocked just how entrenched the argument that one of the best things about the game is in fact how little content is being added is becomingThis is such a tired and lazy "rebuttal". I think you are misunderstanding. I think the point is generally 1. No game in existence is going to keep up with the appetite of gamers who play 7 days a week X hours a day. 2. There is a lot of content to be enjoyed, players just may not be interested in some or even most of it. That doesn't mean there is no content.
And yes, I do appreciate this game is easy to keep up in, so I can enjoy interests outside FFXIV without feeling so behind. Like in Lost Ark they complain about having so much "homework" as they call it, it's taking over their time and lives and it's unhealthy. There they complain about having too much repetitive content they have to do to keep up or risk being gatekept out of new content entirely by the other players.

But you can develop content that doesn't gatekeep. Bozja is an example. It was fun, midcore and you can skip right over it if you want to get to endwalker.I think you are misunderstanding.
