I really don't get why they didn't just bundle relic weapons in with variant dungeons or something.

They've been tying it to an exploratory zone for so long, and now there isn't one. Their brain probably broke over the idea of tying the relic to other content instead, so now we're getting the most boring side content imaginable. Not gonna lie though, with how these have looked, I'm glad they're easy to get. If there were a giga-farm attached to them, I'd feel 0 motivation to bother with it since none of these have been must-haves for me outside of anything other than stats.

edit: Also the tomes these relics are tied to can only really be gotten through dailies, level 90 dungeons, and level 90 trials/raids. In the grand scheme of this game's available content, most of it doesn't reward relic tomes. Once you finish your dailies, the pragmatic way to get tomes is to just join a hunt train or (if you hate yourself) spam troia. If there were also an option to trade in poetics, then that'd open up like... the other 90% of the game, and the argument could genuinely be made that, yeah, "you can farm the relic by doing any content you want." But right now? Not so much. On the bright side though, this has allowed me to sell tome materials at a premium rate for like 4 months straight. Thanks Yoshi P!

How on earth was that your takeaway when I called the current system "the most boring side content imaginable"? Obviously I don't prefer this setup. I think this system is ass and I'd have loved a system that wasn't so dull. All I meant was I also think these weapons are ugly as hell, so I'm like... low-key glad that they're not a huge pain in the ass to get, since they're gaudy af and I've glammed over all of them. In ShB I did the relic quests while they were relevant on all of my jobs primarily because I liked the way they looked, but later because it was BiS. But I think what's always driven me to bother with these is their appearance. If the 6.4 ones look like shit too, I'll just get one on my main job and then not even bother.
