To be fair though, if someone is seeing over 10 bids on a small and like 50-60 on a medium, I understand someone going for the unicorn. lol Same reason I go for my dream small whenever it’s up: it’s all RNG anyway so might as well go for what I want and hope for the best. Not having any better luck on the other random plots I bid on either. I seriously despair of winning anything…

It's noones fault but my own for not grabbing a medium when I last had the chance *which was against bots before lotto was a thing*, the system the xiv designers put is garbage.
Atleast with the lotto it feels "Fair" to some degree when it comes to a private house

But the only thing keeping me around was my small house- but housing in general has lost it's appeal after losing each medium bid

I've thought about transferring data centers to grab the plot I want but again, the entire luster is basically gone because of the way the house system is.
And if I transfer, would I even get the plot I want? or would suddenly 50-100 people want it and I'm out 30 dollars and no house again.

That is not a call for instanced housing which I feel will just turn the concept of housing being a "place" into a endless slew of silly pet projects that will liter the game and be forgotten (like the large sum of empty apartment rooms on most servers) but rather I am refering to stuff like opening up the ability to share your home more; to expand your home more and generally encourage more players to actually engage the housing system while at the same time giving them the means to do so.
I don't think increasing the item limit will have a noticeable effect on the demand for a house (or a house of a particular size). It's floor plan as much as item limit that makes certain sizes more attractive than others.

How many players are actually sharing their personal house with other players who do not have one? Not that I'm against increasing the tenant limit but I don't think doing it would reduce demand for houses. Players want something that is their own that they have control over and don't have to fear losing access to because they get into an argument with the owner.

Not sure what you mean by "expand your home more"; are you referring being able to increase the size of what the player already has without relocating? That would require a complete redesign of the housing system because of the way wards are laid out.

Creating more reasons that encourage players to engage with the housing system would mean creating more demand on a system that is already strained with the current design. It could also possibly lean toward making a house feel mandatory depending on what those new features are.

What really needs to happen is to change the design issues that cause players to want a house while having no actual interest in housing. Detach the financial incentives (workshop and gardening). Resolve the scarcity issues, not just of general availability but of size availability, that create artificial demand via FOMO and perceived prestige.

And of course I'm pro instanced housing. Instanced housing won't "litter the game" because there will be nothing to be seen or using up instance server resources unless a player actually wants to enter. I still feel it's SE best chance to create the active neighborhoods they dream of since more players would have reason to enter into the same ward common area at the same time not to mention every player could get the plot of their choice instead of having to compete against each other in lotteries.

Not certain which plot you want to get but when Dynamis opened, very few plots other than LB 11/41 and Mist 5/35 had any competition. Other than Seraph, it took a few lottery cycles for all the larges and mediums to sell out.

There will probably be even less competition when SE adds the other 4 worlds to Dynamis. Most of those who were willing to transfer to get a house already did so. The next round of transfers will more likely be players who want to avoid log in queues when 7.0 is released.

And transferring to a new world is free. You're only going to end up out money if you decide to transfer back to one of the crowded worlds.

I'd suggest waiting for SE to announce the opening of the new worlds then plan to transfer day one so you'll have the best chance of getting the plot you want.

I do feel that increasing item limits inside and outside would make even smalls much more desirable. I personally like my place full of detail so easily use my 200 indoor item limit upstairs alone. 400 items inside and another 10 outside in a small would be amazing.

A higher limit would of course make them more desirable than they are now but would that also translate into players who currently want (and can afford) mediums deciding they'd prefer to keep a small? It's not accomplishing anything with respect to the demand problem if it's not getting players to change their minds about wanting mediums and large.

The real test would be apartments. Would increasing the item limit in apartments encourage more players to use them in place of a house or will they still continue to hold out for a house? Island Sanctuary is solving the request for a place for players to put their outdoor furnishings when they don't have a house. Access to gardening would still be an issue but many could be changing their minds after working with the cropland in IS. There are no mammets for the garden in housing. Failure to water/tend the plants doesn't result in growth pausing, it results in the plant dying.

Oh, I agree that it doesn't solve the problem at all, I just went down a rabbit hole imagining how much lovelier life would be with the more accessible smalls.

I really don't feel like instanced housing is a good fix, either. I don't know, maybe just me, but logging into my apartment or island just doesn't have the same feeling as walking through my neighborhood.

Bottom line, the systems are not acceptable and with a paid subscription, I think everyone should be entitled to a house. Fight me

    Agreed.

While extra item limits would help, I’ve been wanting to see a third story added to smalls. Probably wouldn’t do it for most people but I like the cozy feel of the cottage anyways, and an attic would be perfect! Give me another 3x3 square of space upstairs and I’d be in heaven! (Provided I can actually manage to win a small… sometime this lifetime!)

On another tangent, I was wandering through the Dravanian Hinterlands today and thought wouldn’t this make a nice area for a housing district! Not Old Sharlayan, but Sharlayan reconstruction! We could help the gobbies rebuild! It’s got trees, it’s got water, it could be the next Lavender Beds! lol Since so many people seem to like pretty nature views over the more marble city districts…

Heeeey; as a fellow personal Small that has also lost years of medium bids I can relate; again its one thing I hate how much gil is out there so people often skip the small and go right to med/large pools.

Disagree; as someone already pointed out; increasing the item limit for housing spaces would likely make apartments and FC rooms more viable while also allowing people to do impressive/complex builds. I also disagree that ANYONE enjoys the layouts of any of the houses..the larges often have annoying pillars/staircases and the mediums force tunnel entranceways. The Smalls are the least obstructive of layouts as their stairwell does not directly force its way into your basic floorplan due to the stairs being a side doorway.

I disagree as I have multiple friends who I allow to deco and really do whatever they like at the house; they like the build but like the fact they can control and change things up at a time. On a alt I am a tenant and we like having room-mates in a friends house without being a FC

That is exactly what I said prior - rather then looking at why people get houses; rework the system to encourage them to LEAVE the housing market once they get "a" home. As it stands a small owner often stays in the market and due to how the lotto works still competes with first time buyers. I would see the means to tweak internal layouts and ideally add additional chambers or workshops and other such features to ALL homes.

The idea is to encourage players not to engage in housing as a grind and rather as something they can grow into whatever home they get.

I disagree - while you know I am not pro instance; My logic is that the more you dilute and hand over housing the less people will generally be motivated to engage in it - look at the amount of empty FC rooms/apartments in a ward sometime. When a instanced system results in 20 pages of instances to find anything actually used I would also consider that the idea of "instanced" housing where everyone gets their dream plots defeats the purpose of distinct plots in general. What a sad argument to use when it comes to house ownership in a video game.

Someone who relies on what they have in a video game instead of the things they do in life to feel special has a miserable life indeed.
