I don't defend YoshiP alot. If anything I criticise him more than anything, but the argument to unsubscribe or play other games, while terribly blunt, is just another way of saying that you should diversify your library and not expect any one game to be the one and all.

It's also ok to outgrow a game because it no longer satisfies what you're looking for. A lot of people struggle with that one, particularly imo with MMOs.
Probably unfair to say.....and I know alot of people get upset when you say this.
But I think Blizzard and WoW kind of set this mentality.

For most people, WoW is just "That One Game" and its systems were designed to ALWAYS keep you playing. More like an Addiction Simulator instead of just a Fun Videogame.
If you notice, alot of ideas people think FFXIV should, are just systems from WoW. Some of them good: Nobody disagrees about the Glamour System.
But otherwise, it kind of sounds less like "Improve FFXIV" and more like "Turn FFXIV into WoW."
If the coding and the games Design Philosophy were different and more flexible, maybe YoshiP and Team would have.

Look, I get the want to have content that lasts longer then it has been recently. That the four months wait for a major patch is probably too long. Yet with how some people complain on here; it it comes across ass though they expect the game to have a new thing to be released every week if not every other week. That their level of need for content is trying to treat the game as one would a mobile game. There are others who have out right said they would play the game 24/7 if you know that pesky sleep wouldn't get in the way. Or that even playing a different game after logging off from XIV for the day is an inconceivable concept to them. That they recoil at the mere thought of playing something else.

Content doesn't need to be released weekly, it just has to be designed smartly. The systems are built to be fun for one or two times tops as of right now.

If you use people who can't be responsible for themselves as the base for designing this game that is a flawed approach. "Oh hey, lets not make this fun to replay because a few people can't control themselves" is punishing the userbase. Regardless, the folks that can't control themselves have a fundamental issue with themselves. Even if FFXIV got so boring they quit they'd still find any other game they could play 24/7. Making this one stale wouldn't solve any problems.

Some people that play XIV so badly want WoW to be this big bad entity that forces them to play, so they can create villains out of the players that ask for more to do.

Realistically, WoW just provides more passive activities, overall more enjoyable combat, and it has daily/weekly events. I feel no pressure to play unless I'm in a raid group (just like XIV), and even if the systems were as repetitive as XIV, the rewards and engagement are dynamic enough to make me enjoy doing mindless activities. Where XIV just makes me want to AFK instead of go out into the wilderness to shoot stuff.

Also telling us you don't want the dev team to create fun events because you'll feel FOMO just kinda makes me think you guys are the ones that are actually addicted and would feel the need to login every day. When in reality, it just.. Creates a dynamic living world with things to do. It ain't complicated.

I don't even get the "Turn FFXIV into WoW" deal, it IS WoW. It's just a super light version of it with waifus and friendship. The rest, we see as watered down nothingness.

You need to spend more time playing all those other games you say Yoshi lets you play, give you a better perspective of your environment.

Saying I can't drink soda because some people are addicted to soda and will become 900lb monsters just.. Isn't a good excuse. Sometimes I drink soda, most of the time I drink water. Again, ain't complicated.

Oh no, Children's Week! It's gonna make me go rabid! https://www.wowhead.com/event=201/childrens-week

And heaven forbid it's even suggested to just do some stuff with some friends in game. Hell, at this point I'm only coming in when the friends want to do stuff like EXs, roulettes, deep dungeon, etc. In the meantime when they don't, I've been playing Megaman Battle Network Legacy Collection, Sackboy Adventure, Dragon's Dogma, Grandia, etc etc. Don't have to live in this game after all.

This is a healthy attitude imo. Also, is Megaman Battle Network Legacy Collection (good lord that mouthful) worth the $50?

Well I'm glad yours still log in. All of mine quit long ago saying the content cycle sucks and I'm the only one who stuck around. Funny how Yoshi P was right about the silent leaving first.

Deep Dungeon is one of the best repeatable content ideas they ever had. They just didn't use that as a basis to build the concept further. It's slotted in as side content where they can fit it into the schedule, reusing the original template each time and changing out the effect of a few pomanders to iterate a new version. Parts of its system could be good in other content where things are too static and predictable. I love randomised enemies and a large pool of randomised rewards. Those are just fundamental components to make any battle content repeatable a large number of times while minimizing fatigue.

Variant dungeons have some cool choices, but each branch just ended up as its own static dungeon, see it once and done. Criterion lacks rewards for something people have to learn with a group. The reward model didn't match the effort. It's also a bit similar to other content but I suppose people wanted harder content to do with 4 people instead of 8, so it fills some kind of purpose.

Yeah I really doubt they login. It sounds like he's the one just AFK on retainers while playing Grandia. Which yeah, it's sad. It's the same shit I'm doing while 90% of my FC is at an average 100 days since last login. The ones that do login don't even feel motivated to even do anything but AFK, because they're just going through the motions of habit. If you join one of those mega FCs, it's also the same thing. No matter how many people they invite, most are AFK or doing single-player MSQ.

The world is so scripted, we already know what to expect with everything we do - So why bother doing anything more than once? I don't feel a sense of adventure anymore. It doesn't feel like the devs are working on an MMO, it feels like they're working on a single-player game with housing.

It's like all of these people telling us there's so much content to do, forget that most of us aren't high-end raiders and don't want to feel pressured into joining a static. But we still want fun and difficult things to do in general.

"I don't want to feel pressured to do content because there's so much of it" meanwhile, their suggestion for content is to feel pressured.. ?

Yes it is. If you get the physical edition it comes with all the games on the cart (albeit through 2 different apps to separate 1-3 from 4-6). While they're straight ports of ALL of the GBA versions, the game includes its own trophies you can unlock, it has Megaman.EXE on the main screen talking to you (with the original English AND Japanese voices from the anime speaking!), and comes with a nice little "cheat" called Buster MAX that you can turn on at any time. It takes your Buster's base damage and multiplies it by 100, making it easy to get past any enemies giving you a really hard time (I CAN'T STAND WOODMAN) or if you just want to breeze through the games quickly. Also has all the online network stuff including battles and trading. Also you can "download" strong battle chips for each game, like the Bass battle chip for MMBN1 (does 200 damage to all enemies once per battle).

EDIT: Forgot to mention, it does come with an art gallery, AND a music player so you can listen to your favorite tunes from each game.
