I simply hope we get some new companions for the next xpac. They do not have to throw the old ones in the bin or anything, they can be there every now and then, but we apparently disbanded the scions so we might wanna find some new companions for the road ahead.

Good luck with that. I feel like they've become marketable characters or something, because Square just won't let them go. We've had so many perfect moments during the story to part ways with them without it being forced and they absolutely refuse to do so.

Let the Scions stay in Eorzea while we go off on some new adventure to Meracydia or the New World or wherever. Give them a sendoff where they tell us we can always call on their help in times of need or something (justifying being able to call on them for Trusts, without needing to have them front and center all the time in the MSQ), maybe use them for cameos or side stories once in a while, but take a break from them for a bit.

It be better if they all had their own, unqiue endings depending on what their character goals are.
And in Endwalkers defense, this is more or less what they seem to be doing. But we can all tell that its all temporary, and we all know by the end of the "Suddenly Golbez" storyline, all of them will be involved.

This. The simple reality is that the Scions are hugely popular among the fanbase at large, minus the dozen or so utterly bitter, sad, negative dregs around here that hate everything about the game, anyway, and can't stand that other people enjoy it. Final Fantasy has never been Game of Thrones. People by and large play this game to relax, have fun, and enjoy a good story with characters they know and like without wondering who's going to be offed next. New adventures with old friends, mixed with introducing a few new characters (a la Zero) is the way I hope they go.

I, too, would like to move away from the Scions. I don't really dislike them, but I think it's time to part ways. I'm tired of the WoL being nothing more than hired muscle while smarter, more cultured, or more diplomatic characters make all the big decisions and shape the direction of the story. I often feel like a side character in my own movie.

There were plenty of opportunities to respectfully retire/kill off/otherwise leave the Scions, but heaven forbid we break the shounen anime mold to tell a more mature story that doesn't rely on keeping the same ensemble cast around for reasons of popularity.

I can't like this comment enough. Both the Allagan and Garlean empires had so much potential for exploration and world-building,* but when everything was boiled down to "it was Ascians," my enthusiasm began to wane. The technological achievements of both empires just don't feel very impactful after the introduction of the not-so-invisible hand of a nigh godlike being guiding events like moving pieces on a chessboard.

I was really hoping Eureka Orthos would provide a deeper exploration (pun sort-of intended) of Allagan lore, but we got almost nothing useful out of it.

*They still do, especially for future events. It's possible, and I think it would be quite interesting, to see an industrial and technological revolution in Eorzea after the collapse of the Garlean Empire. However, we're going to be stuck in this weird mishmash of medieval fantasy, steampunk, and cyberpunk(?) that just never fit well together in my mind.

edit: I like Zero. She has potential.

Striker: "...Dozen or so utterly bitter, sad, negative dregs around here that hate everything about the game"

I mean nobody literally nobody said nothing about people who likes Scions, you could made your point without resorting to attacks.

The problem though is that you are the side character, the WoL, by nature of what they are, cannot have strongly defined personality traits, they must always be enough of a blank slate so that you may headcanon whatever personality traits you'd like into them, the only canon personality traits they have are, "generally heroic", and "is afraid of Rowena", and this is very much by design, thus a trait present in most stories in this game is that the WoL is a bit piece in other people's stories, Alex raids are Mide and Roundrox's story, Omega raids are Cid, Nero and Alpha's story, Eden raids are Ryne and Gaia's story, Pandæmonium raids are Themis and Erich's story, if your problem is that you are following somebody else's lead, this will sparsely change, with occasionally we getting stuff like DRK quests that put a huge deal of focus on the WoL, and if they get rid of the Scions in any way(which I consider... unlikely to say the least), we will just find another group of people who can think for themselves so they can decide the plot and we can follow their lead, I firmly believe this to be completely inevitable.
