ummmmmmm ever consider suicide is a major issue in japan?
The forest around mt fuji in engish is known as suicide woods. Ton of people go their daily to commit suicide. It was a issue that they are trying to close it off to prevent people from going in there.

A game saying it is "OK" to die kinda don't help their issue.
I learned about that on the discovery channel, they toured the woods and it was beyond creepy/slad to see stuff that belonged to ppl who killed themslves. Like torn up pictures, credit cards. Cell phones buired. They even found an abandoned camp site with a michete. Man that gave me goosebumps

No, destroyed gear should not be an option. Think about if FFXI had that. You know that Apoc that you worked for 3 years to get? Yea...it's now gone. That Kraken Club you spent 35mil on? Well, you better start farming some more! This is a horrible idea and if it gets implemented, this game will fall even further in the abysmal hell hole that it's already in.

Expensive stuff getting destroyed is a big issue, but why not consider the idea I had where you could apply crafted items to your gear that would prevent it from being destroyed? That part of my suggestion seemed to have gotten ignored. If crafters could make items that you could apply to your very expensive items, that would prevent them from being destroyed one time before they had to be reapplied, that COULD solve the problem.

As for rare/ex gear, It would probably have to be exempt from destroying policy. I'm not saying there are no problems with this idea, but I'm not sure that everyone who replied here bothered to read my OP.

I was mainly looking for comments on the "crafted item preventing gear destruction" more than anything else, but that seems to have been overlooked. Oh well.

I personally think that this game is too influenced by crafting as it is. EVERYTHING involves crafting. We honestly don't need another reason for people to craft so...I'm still going to have to say no. Exp/sp loss would be better...but just not delevel. This might be a decent balance for people.

Destroying gear permanently is a curious idea but I think it flies a bit in the face of SE's desire to make this game "casual friendly".

This is not at all casual friendly and as such I don't think it can gain much traction. Unless of course SE changes its tack completely and states that the focus of FFXIV is now aimed at "hardcore" players instead of "casual" players. Then it becomes a possibility along with many other fun things like XP loss on death.
