Hopefully this goes through and the free login campaign was enough to reignite forum access...fingers crossed!
I'd argue otherwise. Vocal elements of this game's community have long acted extremely weirdly towards anyone who criticises elements of the story or happens to like or dislike the 'wrong' characters or factions. I've pointed out many times in the past how, quite often, those who lap up anything the story offers them have a habit of making incredibly bizarre insinuations about those who provide feedback or criticism. If they like Garlemald, they're accused of 'supporting fascism'. If they ask for more stakes and character deaths? They're called 'psychopaths'. If they happen to dislike Venat and find her genocidal rampage to be controversial? They're accused of 'hating women'. The worst possible spin is embraced and it is treated as if using the forum for the intended purpose of leaving feedback about the things that certain posters like or dislike is equal to some sort of criminal activity.
That's not even getting into the creepy conspiracy theories implying that everyone who criticises Endwalker is simply an alt or part of some secretive cabal, the death threats, homophobic commentary and 'forced intimacy' related comments. All of which have I know full well have been brought up many, many times by both myself and other posters.
So, no, it isn't 'both sides'. At most, a few people had enough after months or even years of needlessly aggressive/bad faith discussion in the guise of 'story talk' and got a bit snippy. A common trend around these parts is to ignore the outright horrific stuff posted and instead point at those snippy comments as if they and they alone are the problem or a case of 'both sides' at play.
As other posters so kindly pointed out, ignoring a thread one does not wish to partake in is perfectly viable and certainly preferable to derailing them over not liking specific posters.
