"It's still Final Fantasy". The franchise with Aerith's death? Well maybe that's why they'll probably remove it in the remake because this new wave of FF fans seem to just want slice of life anime with cool xXCloudXx moments. On the other hand, grim for the sake of being grim rapidly loses its value when it's overdone. Do you want it to go the A song of Ice and Fire route? Oh another POV character died or was horribly mutilated, I'm shocked I say, shocked.
They are never killing Y'shtola. She sells figures and represents us in Dissidia. I too wish the writer was more honest about the Scions' heroic sacrifice except not really in the MSQ, but in the end it's still Final Fantasy, what can you do?
This far and nobody's made a lalafell joke from that title? I'm disappointed.
IV and VI have some of the darkest stories you'll ever find in the series. Aerith's death is one thing, but Kefka wins in VI. Then our group of friends that were travel companions rise to the occasion and topple him down. Final Fantasy is about hope and companions/friends. Character death is a very cheap story device that can give the illusion of seriousness and depth, but it means nothing if done poorly. We knew Tesleen for an hour, yet her death is one of the most impactful in Shadowbringers. And then very people cared for Lunafreya in XV. Character death for the sake of death means nothing. Also, If you're expecting a Final Fantasy story to be the an ocean of depression like say.. the FromSoft games, you're looking into the wrong franchise. We're here to fight for hope.
And kill Chaos.

Oh please, we only ever had two good deaths ever, Haurchefant and Tesleen, Moen? she was literally introduced to die, Ysayle? killed off because they couldn't figure out what to do with her next and has zero impact on the story, Papalymo? fridged to kick off Lyse's development, with the goal of his sacrifice undone the next patch, Yotsuyu? a shallow end to an amazing arc, I guess redemption truly doesn't exist, nevermind that she never truly went back her evil ways and the entire Tsukuyomi thing was forcing our hand because she couldn't bear her own guilt any longer.
Haurchen dying serves to make Thordan into a true villain whom the player wants to take down(even if Thordan is still one of the weakest villains in the game), and Tesleen's death serves to rapidly and efficiently contextualize the brutality of life in the First, none of the other deaths in this game make me feel anything but disatisfaction or confusion.
He would have been fine... if he didn't spend an entire xpac MIA, and came back only to die.
Many believe they did her dirty, and I felt that the whole thing was a bit rushed. I'm not a fan of how Hien handled the whole situation, though I feel for Gosetsu to this day.
I said this above, but character death for the sake of character death is a really cheap (and often times bad) trope.

Yotsuyu and Gosetsu should've both fallen at Doma Castle. Would've been a better end to both of their arcs.
You know FF7R isn't killing Aerith, where's the profit in that? And yet FF7 killed Aerith, ASOIAF killed Ned, Rob, and many others, TLOU killed off Joel. There can be good and bad deaths of course. Some deaths are just made for pure shock value. But that's vastly better than FF14's "oops tee hee Y'shtola didn't actually die". Can't offend the Y'shtola bodypillow havers after all.
Don't forget a literal child succumbing to existential dread and deciding that the best course of action is to erase all of existence.
Wait, why am I even bothering to post here? OP is obviously a troll. I could go on about how the game isn't afraid to use nightmare fuel imagery (Tesleen's transformation, Tam-Tara Hard questline, Meteion reacting to the info from her sisters) and it wouldn't matter.

I'll give healer a try up until level 100. If I do not like it, I'm off the role, entirely. Was this what Yoshi P wanted for people like me? Did he assume we were too foolish to take any semblance of complexity? How could such an allegedly open developer act so dismissive towards his own players? The flavor of the jobs I loved so much throughout the franchise were mere husks of themselves. What was once a magical world peeled away to reveal a sterile room of four walls. No imagination, no challenge, only accessibility for the sake of it. I didn't feel welcomed, I felt betrayed.
Bumping yet another epic hunkygladiator thread.
By the way, does anyone still believe FFXIV to have a 9/10 JRPG story after the dust has settled? The cheap tearjerker-bait cutscenes must’ve worn off by now, haven’t they? Considering we’ve been given multiple GOTYs since then. Sure it was a novelty to see an MMO pretend to be a JRPG for a hot minute, but is it really comparable to the rest of the lot?
