Can't wait for EU auto-demolition and the chance to finally claim a personal mansion that some inactive user forgot to enter.
Of course I'm speaking from experience. Of all the people I know, only one idles at their hosue regularly - but that's because they have a mansion and like hosting a lot of people from their circle of friends, organizing events for us, even. Everyone else furnishes their house and then chooses a different hangout spot where they have actually people who they can interact with in /say. Might be their FC house, might be a bench in a capital.

Retainer business can be done at your house, or anywhere else. The problem is that anywhere else also offers services you will have to eventually leave not your house, but the whole residential quarter for. And if your house is in shirogane and Empyreum, you can't even use the aethernet to quickly get into a capital for stuff like GC turn-ins. The game just does nothing to make owning a personal house compelling from a gameplay standpoint; it's just a vanity item.

Edited to add: I think EU auto-demo is on now? I forgot, they keep going back and forth about it.

Everyone plays in their own way. Your friends who are Limsa regulars don't represent all players and you really aren't in a position to tell me how I'm going to interact with housing when I currently have a personal house and had several in the past 7 years.

Housing has social, creative and vanity uses and while more interactive furnishings would be nice, housing doesn't need any more game play features than it already has. The people who don't have a reason for owning a house will eventually lose it and make room for someone who might use it more. Every time there is a thread like this, I know auto-demo fulfilled its purpose.

Because it is not their idea of housing.
Housing was supposed to be "I'm part of a group, the house is our headquarter" and the starting prices were so high that only an active group of players could afford to buy an house (no matter if we had money from 1.0, 300m in 2.1 was an huge sum).
Everyone can change his idea, SE has changed (in part) his idea about what housing is in FFXIV, but the core remains: an aggregation tool for groups of players with "something" in common (friendship, RPG, chatting...).

EU auto demo is off, for the Turkey earthquake.

Ty for the info. I still enter at least once a day so yeah, but I guess i'll pay closer attention.

300M you say? Housing permits used to cost ten times as much?

Yes houses were a lot more reasonable priced back in 2.1 when the housing system first was introduced. And it was for FCs only. Prices were different for each server and got up to 625 mio for a large on some legacy servers.

However, there also was a system in place which reduced the price over time.

You can see the prices here in the 2.1 patch notes, you have to scroll a bit: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...7af43f3c43828a

It’s a good thing not to answer your enemies. I scarcely ever do. Perhaps Emily is more like me than I am like myself. Perhaps she would rather not answer her friends, even. She keeps it all in her heart.
