Pretty sure the Shadowbringers Eden series bad queer coded content. It’s enough a lot of people thought so while not being very “in your face” about it.

That is an interesting case. I liked what they did with the storyline, nothing concrete is said but when you have the two characters bond and have a great big rainbow rock as the centrepiece, it tells a tale I think even if many will say its all platonic. Honestly though I am not normally a fan of ‘queer coding’ mostly because its something I feel should be left in the past nowadays. 80’s X-Men comics? Sure, I can understand and appreciate the coding the writers added to such characters and themes. Nowadays I just feel it can be used too much of an excuse to earn brownie points saying ‘Oh look we have subtext!’ whilst not trying to offend anyone against such things, leaving such content feeling rather hollow. There are of course a lot of exceptions, and I am more forgiving for franchises like FF doing that due to where they where created. Its not always a bad thing if done well, but at times it can stiffen storytelling too. An example would be how The Last of Us TV series treats the character of Bill in regards to the game. The series is ALOT more open about his sexuality in the series then game, and it is 100% better for it. It lets the character be explored in a much deeper way, and ultimately fits with the theme of the show and the main characters journey much more then in the game.
