Judging by the amount of negative posts on this forum. I would say the ones seeking validation are complainers. The reason this topic always stirs up drama, insults and arguments is the desire for validation.
With FF14 players, this means they chose to play this game, they don't intend to quit any time soon because it's safe and comfy and they want validation that they made a good choice to support it. Complaints go directly against this. This is why many players seem to lash out defensively, tell complainers to leave and even hurl insults around.
Complaints are touching a nerve. If the game was in a healthy state and better than competing games, complaints would be laughed at and ignored. But deep down most people know it isn't in a healthy state. The complaints threaten their fragile copium bubble and they hate it. They'll launch into defensive rants about how special their mediocre game is.
They're not trying to convince us FF14 is a great game. They're trying to fool themselves.
Victim mentality is strong in this one.
