Maybe there wasn't a last time. Just the first time. This wouldn't be all that surprising either given how companies milk their servers. Southwest just had a meltdown because of how old their stuff was. It's not uncommon for companies to drive them into the ground. Maybe repair individual pieces that fail.

I don't recall there ever really being a straight up upgrade like this to the servers. Some updates to infrastructure and the like, sure, but this might be the first time they have said "Yeah, we're upgrading this stuff."
